All (Jallney was pained yesterday
at the announcement! of the death of
Mr. W. H. Pierson, which occurred
about 12:15 noon. The announce
ment was not unexpected, for Mr.
Pierson had been very low for two
weeks and his death has been mo
mentarily expected the past few days.
And yet his many friends had hoped
against hope, and tender and loving
hands and skilled physicians had
ministered to his suffering ,and
fevered frame anu did all that possi
bly could bo done to arrest the
ravages of the fathl pneumonia. But
all in vain. Almost from the first
the disease maae rapid strides and the
inevitable came at lust and did what
no earthly friend could do—bore the
pain-racked body to an abode of
rest.
William Henry Pierson was born
in New Haven, Conn., a little more
than thirty years ago. When he was
four years of age ids parents moved
to Augusta, Ga., where they resided
for a long while. Mr. Pierson mar
ried a Miss Scott when ho attained
the age of twenty-one. His health
was never robust so he moved up in
to the Piedmont holt about five
years ago, going to Henrietta, N. C.,
where ho worked in the store of the
Henrietta Mills Co. A little more
than three years ago he accepted a
position with 0. E. Wilkins <fc Bro.,
of this place and moved here with his
family. He remained with Messrs.
Wilkins Bros., until iaet tail when he
deterrimud to open up a business ior
himself. He engaged in the •’haber
dasher” business and by hard work
and industry was making his little
store one of the most attractive in
Gaffney. Ha had not, gotten fairly
started in the race when the "Grim
Keeper” came to claim him as l:is
own
Mr. Pierson had been sick but fif
teen days. He died of typhoid-pneu
monia, contracted by taking cold
while going to the depot one night

two little gills to mourn his loss,

The remains were taken to Augusta on
the vestibule for interment. Mr. Pier
son was u member of the Methodist
church.
The- bereaved wife and children
have the deepest sympathy of all the
people of Gaffney in this thefr hour
of sorrow.
