Dr. Pitt, editor of the Religious Herald, of Richmond, Va., who has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. VV. C. Carpenter during the Convention, left yesterday for the City of Seven Hills. Dr. Pitt is one of the most lovable men in tho Old Dominion and the Palmetto State is always de lighted to have him within her bor ders whether it be on a religious or seeular errand. Rev. If. L. Riiey, a full graduate of tho Southern Daptist Theological Seminary, who is one of tho two popular bachelor preachers of the Ridge Association, is the guest of Mr. O. S. Kendrick. Hon. C. \V. Whisonant was among his friends in the city yesterday and while here took in the Convention. John S. Harman, a hustling farmer of Wilkinsville, was in tho city yes terday. Misses Katie and Willie 1’obo, two of the most charming young ladies that have attended tho Convention, returned to their home in Spartan burg yesterday. They promised to return about Christmas and spend tho holidays with us. There are quite a number of tho young gallants who will be delighted to know this. While here the Misses Bobo were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Gaines. K. D. Edwards and his friend, Mr. Cantrell, of Martinsville, have been attending the Convention this week. They both looked like they might move to Gaffney soon. We hope so. John F. Moore, of Hidenito, N. C., an appreciated patron of The Ledger, paid us a pleasant visit yesterday. Mr. Ed Bridges, an over-the-river farmer of whom Cherokee is justly proud, spent some time in tho city yesterday. The Ledger was honored yesterday by a visit from that distinguished gentleman, Rev. If. C. Bucklioltz. lion. Godfrey B. Fowler, of Jones- villo, was in the city yesterday the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Lotspeich, on Granord street. Dr. T. B. Bell, of Atlanta, who has been tho guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. 0. Carpenter during the Convention, left yesterday for his home in the Gate City. She is attending the Conven tion, of which her husband is one o the brightest stars. Mrs Logan Gaffney and sons, Jerome and Bussell, of Spartanburg, who have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs A. B. Gainfs, on Victoria av enue, returned to the city of the Spartans yesterday. Galhert'il from (Ity ii:ul County for l.i-il- K«t Ktai'lers. It takes a soon one to beat Will Moore, of Ravenna, to the city when he has something to sell. Mrs. R. R. Wilkins sent to Tho Ledger yesterday some fine speci mens of second growth lettuce and reddish. They remind one of the time when nature is robed in her prettiest and most useful gartnent. Rev. R. H. Morse is in the city again. Mr. Morse is one of the hardest hitters in tha country. He is against the use of tobacco and rum and does not hesitate to let the peo ple know his views in language that is inelegant but strikingly forceful. Many of Gaffney’s guests visited the many places of interest in the city yesterday. They were pleased wherever they went and expressed their admiration of Gaffney’s enter prise—One returning from the carpet mill was heard|to say, “Why, it beats a circus!” A state geologist said that within a radius of twenty miles of Limestone Springs there is a greater variety and a greater quantity of tho valuable minerals than any other portion of die state. The bulk of these miner als are in Cherokee county and many of them in close proximity to GatTney. A NEW MILL FOR GAFFNEY. The movement was put on foot yesterday. It is proposed that Gaffney's eminent business man and banker, Mr. A. X Wood, be made president and treas urer and the well known *xiiil man, Mr. E. B. Cush, general manager and superintendent. When it is stated that these two gentlemen are inter ested it should be sullicient to indue others to go into the new company, for both are known for their integrity and ability. Already more than half the capital stock has been subscribed anti those who wish to get in on the ground floor should lose no time. This will make the second cotton mill for Gaffney. Let the good work continue. City li<‘i;ihtriitIon Now 0|i<*ii«*<l. Mr. I). A. Thomas has been ap pointed by the city council as city registrar, his duty being to register those who desire to vote in the ao- proaching municipal election, which takes place in March. Mr. Thomas’ ollice will he in Sherill Thomas’ of fice in the court house and the ollice hours will he from 10 to 12 a. m.. and from 1 to d p. m., and all those who desire to vote had best call on him and get a registration certificate. The law requires tho registration to be open ninety days before the election, so the books were opened yesterday. Mrt'GiiK of tin* City Council. The city council met last night in regular monthly session. There were present Mayor Littlejohn and all tho aldermen. The ordinance chang ing the charter was ratified. The matter of establishing a volunteer lire department was discussed but no definite action was taken. The coun cil put itself on record as opposing the closing of any alleys or streets that are now open. After tho trans action of the routine business oi the city tho council adjourned.
