Some competent young man could
make a good thing for himself and
do a vast deal of good to a large
number of young working people if
he would open a night school on
such conditions as would make it
practicable for these young working
people to attend.
From the first of October the nights j
are long enough to Imve a two hours
session each night. These two hours 1
in a night school would be profitably 1
spent and not idled away on the
streets or other unprofitable places.
Besides these two hour sessions
would impress upon these young peo
ple the importance of an education
and engender in them a desire for it
and change their tastes from the
love of the follies of the streets to
the higher side of humanity and di
rect them to pursuits and attain
ments that will endure with life and
give consolation in death.

We are acknowledged to be the cheapest store in Gaffney. Even our competi
tors will say that. We sell goods at retail cheaper than they can buy them whole
sale. They don’t understand how we do it, but we do it. They say we sell goods
at a loss and have cut the business all to pieces and that there is no longer any
money to be made in it. Whether we sell at a loss or not we are mighty anxious to
sell the goods and can get plenty more at prices that simply defy competition; none
can touch them.
The business is all right and is not cut to pieces. Wc are making money at it,
because we know when, where and how to buy and pay spot cash for everything
that comes into our house, We buy for two stores and buy direct from manufac
turers and importers and pick up iots of stuff at auction and sheriff’s sales at less
than half what it costs to manufacture. No gather Gaffney store could meet our
prices and live and they don’t try to do it and don’t pretend to do it.
We do more business than any other store in Gaffney, but we know there is
more to be done and we are determined to do it. A good many people get in the
habit of trading at certain places and ne’/er look around to cost themselves on
prices. They are standing in their own light by so doing and lose money at it.
Anybody who buys dry goods, notions, shoes, clothing or hats in Gaffney before
seeing and pricing cur goods is simply giving away their money and this is a mighty
poor year to do that.
