Lay ns'ido personal matters to morrow and vote for Gaffney. Gaffney must ho provided for as she grows. Her people Will do it to morrow. Work is progressing on the addi tion to Limestone college and the First llaptist church. There will be services at the Epis copal church next Sabbath at 11 o’clock by Rev. II. 11. Sams. Gaffney is growing. Her water mains and electric lights must he ex tended. Vote for both to-morrow. The regular Sunday services will be held in the First Baptist church. Members are requested to attend. Rev. 8. T. Creech will till his regu lar appointments on next Sunday: Willson Chapel 11 a. m., Gethsemane 51 p. m. Vote for water works and electric lights to-morrow. Gaffney is up to- date and must have all up-to-date ap pliances. The recent rains destroyed some of the fodder which bad been pulled, but increased growth of grass and pea vines will more than pay fojr it. Gaffney’s great progress is making new but necessary demands on her people, and they will meet them to-morrow as becomes patriots. Vote for progress. The brick work of the power house is finished and the wood workers have taken hold,which, under Baker’s direction, means a finished house in the least possible time. A new First Methodist church in Gaffney is an assured fact. Mr. L. (taker has the supervision of the work, which will cost when com pleted from $<;,ou() to $7,000. On account of rainy weather the meeting at Willson’s Chapel was not begun on last Tuesday, as stated in last issue, hut matters will he ar ranged on next Sunday by the pastor. The trustees of the First Baptist church of this city, through Prof. W. L. Johnson, have purchased a $*2,100 pipe organ to bo ready on completion of the new church building in No vember. It is from the celebrated firm of M. P. Moller, of Hagerstown, Md. County Superintendent of Educa tion McArthur has been out in the county lately looking after the open ing of schools and visiting those in session. Mr. McArthur being a life long teacher, an earnest worker, and his true devotion to duty, makes him an ideal superintendent. T. H. Littlejohn, the popular ex- posmaster of Gaffney, lias accepted a position with Carroll & Carpenter in their mammoth mercantile busi ness here, and commenced work this morning. There is no more worthy man in Gaffney than “Tobe,” and Carroll and Carpenter are fortunate in securing his services. The Km In. Rain has fallen in abundance this v.cek and the county is now proba bly wet all over, for the first time in months. Many a stunted stalk will yet bear fruit and give some renum eration for the labor in the fields. Pea vines and grass crops will come out and give good crops of forage. And we hope every pea vine and blade of grass will he gathered on time that the best yield will he se cured. Turnips can yet ho planted successfully, and many growers claim with better results than if planted earlier. Shallots are of the host of our es culents and we should not fail to plant them while we have this sea son. Eil. II. ID'Cuiiiii Elfcti-il. An election was held in Gaffney Wednesday for one warden to fill out the unexpired term of K. J. Barnet, resigned, with Wm. Webster and Ed. H. DeCamp the candidates. The race was an exciting one, with the friends of both men working hard. Good humor and the best of feeling prevailed throughout the day. Mr. Webster received 109 votes and Mr. DeCamp 130, which makes Mr. I)e- Camp a warden till the next, general election in March P.tOO. The small vote cast is duo to the fact that the registration hooks of ISOS were used, that being the only legal registration that could he used. A MliiUti-r’n (.iiiMlIiy. A report reached the Clarion of fice the first part of the week that a minister of one of our nearby vil lages took permanent leave of his congregation a few Sabbaths since in the following pathetic manner: “Brothers and Sisters: I come to say goodhy. I don’t think God loves ttiis church because none of you ever die. I don’t think you lovt each other because 1 never marry any of you. I don’t think you love me because you have not paid me my salary. Your donations are moldly fruit and wormy apples, ‘and by their fruits ye shall knew them.' “Brothers, I am going to a better place. Wo find the pleasure Tuesday of i meeting our old friend, Squire C. 1’. j Huggins of this county, who has just ' returned from Hot Springs, Ark., | where ho carried his sons, Forest and Donald, to be treated for rheumatism, and are glad, with all his and his sons many friends in the county, that Forest has been entirely cured and that Donald, who has not been able to walk hy any means for years, has been so far relieved as now to he able to walk with crutches. We sincerely hope that these benefits will he per manent.
