day. He will probably return to
Cleveland Springs for a more lengthy
stay as lie was greatly benefitted in
health while there.
Capt Geo. H. Mills is in the city
visiting his sister, Mrs. Mary Scruggs.
Lane Jolly, of Kzells, came to the
city Saturday.
Mr. S. It. Thackston, one of the
most progressive farmers of lower
Cherokee, was in tiro city yesterday.
Rev. B. P. Robertson and family
returned to the city Friday from a
mountain trip.
Win. Tolbert, of Buffalo, came over
to the city Saturday on business.
Mr. Tolbert is one of Cherokee’s
working farmers and is a good writer.
Mrs. Rufus C. Littlejohn left the
city the last of tlie week, to visit her
father, Mr. M. S. Lynn, on Fishing

Rev. S. Conrad, of Charlotte, who

practical and successful farmers, was

W. H. Webber, of Wilkinsville,

is a careful young funner and gives a

respected citizen of Cherokee town
ship, spent several days in the city

We have noticed for some time
that the brilliant young genius who
stands at the head of the firm of J. U.
Sparks & Co., has been spending bis
Sabbaths in Spartanburg. We can
not understand why ''Rus” should
do this but we expect that while
there he burns tlie midnight oil of
the father of some pretty giri. Keep
your eye on “Rus.”
Messrs. Albert Bettis and Price
Martin, two Chorokcearn; of whom wo
are justly proud, spent yesterday in

Rev. Amos Clary, a former Citero-
keean, but now a rising young tie-
vine of the Lone Star State, is in tlie
city for a few days visiting relatives
and friends. Mr. Clary is on ids
way to Rochester, N. V., where lie
goes to complete his studies in a
seminary at that place.

Mrs. Amelia Cubaniss, wife of Muj.
Harvey Cabaniss, of Shelby, N. C.,
died at her home in Shelby on the
11th inst. Mrs. Cubaniss was a
daughter of the late Dr. Samuel Ot-
terson who lived at Limestone
Springs and was born near Pinckery
in Union county in 1S22. She was
of one of the most prominent fami
lies in the upper portion of this state
and was herself a good Christian wo
man of more than ordinary sense
and was highly cultivated.
The Aurora says: “She was a
lady of refinement and culture, gifted
with rare intellectual traits; a
charming companion and delightful
conversationalist. Kho was held in
loving esteem by a wide circle of
acquaintances. With a rich store of
varied knowledge, she dispensed
sunshine and happiness with that
ease and and grace so characteristic
of the ideal ante-bellum Southern
matron.”

rats. The other day he set a trap jn
the grainary and the next morning
when lie visited tlie trap ho found
twenty-nine huge rats in tlie trap.
