The gruml Mrs. John W. Ross, one of the old est and most highly respected wonn-n in Cherokee county, died at her home on Cherokee creek, about three miles north of CutTnoy, on Sat urday the 17th inst., at 'J o’clock in the evening, in her seventy-ninth year. Mrs. Ross was born and raised on the York side of Broad river, and was the daughter (>! the lata Jacob B. Moore, who was widely and well known in this section in bis day and is now well remembered by our older citizens. She was married in her young wo manhood to the lato Cupt. John \V. Ross, so well and favorably known to us all ami who preoeeded her to the grave less than two years ago. She was the mother of eleven children, all of whom lived to he grown except one, who died in early childhood. Her oldest son, Win. Ross, was killed in the front ranks of the Confederate army while nobly doing bis duty in the seven days’ tight around Rieh- Soci- j moml in lS(i*2 Her life was devoted to her God, her domestic duties and the tender care of her devoted child ren, who she always treated, even in her last years and their grown up days, as children needing her con- slant cure and attention ; ami lu r fond children all humored her in the whims of old age and treated her witli the tenderness of childhood which *!k* had so faithfully adminis tered to them in their infancy. Mrs. Ross was long a consistent member of the Baptist church and in ail the viccssittides of life was com forted by her laith, which was also her consolation when the end came. R v. B. P. R ibertson conducted the funeral services in the Providence church Sunday, after which the body was interred by the side of her hus band in the presence of her many sorrowing relatives and friends.
