Two nines were chosen and a nice game of seven innings were played which resulted in a score of seven to fuur in favor of tiie victors. The board of public works let the contract for putting in Gaffney’s system of waterworks Tuesday. Tiie contract was let to six different par ties, each party taking tiie part in Its line. G. O. Tenny, of Spartanburg, got the contract to do tho excavating, to place the pipes, build the cistern and place the machinery. Henry R. Worthington Co., of Brooklyn, N. V., got the contract to furnish the pumps. The American I’ipe and Foundry Company, of Chatanooga, have tiie contract to furnish the pipes. R. D Cole & Co., of Newman, Ga , have the contract to build the stand pipe and furnisli boilers. Jolin W. Taylor, of Atlanta. Ga., lias the contract to furnish tiie air compress and heaters. Tiie Rensselaer Manufacturing Co., of Troy, X. V., have tiie contract to furnish the hydrants. All of the above* nurties come well recommended and will begin work as soon as possible. Their contracts require them to have everyth’ng com pleted by tiie middle of August. And thus it is that Gaffney keeps moving to tiie front. GAFFNEY IS TRUE. Gaffney, true to her progressive spirit, on last Wednesday at an elec tion held to ratify an ordinance passed by the City Council exempt ing from city taxes manufacturing plants established in Gaffney before tiie year 1920 for a term of five years, ratified tiie ordinance by a vote of more than thirty for ratification to one against ratification. Gaffney realizes the benefits she lias received from her manufacturing plants in the past. She knows tiie great value of them today, and while always looking out for her own inter ests will suhstrvo it by showing tiie manufactories we now have, and the ones that are coming, that she is also interested in their welfare. Gaffney has done this very thing before, re peated it Wednesday and will not depart from her liberal ways in the future. She has a few vacant lots t|iat she wants improved. She wants more school houses and finer ones and she is going to have them. She wants new churches; she wants them now, and she is going to have them. And v.lien people want to come to Gaffney to .share with us the many advantages that she offers, Gaffney assures them that they will find her gates ajar.
