He offered his cotton at Pacolet mills but did not like the price offered him, and brought it to Gaffney. Mr. Little john said the price received here paid film well for his trip. • Ida Byars, colored, who has been teaching the Union school, near this city, has given up the school to en ter Claflin University at Orangeburg, for the purpose of improving her education. She leaves with the best wishes of nearly all the patrons of her school for her success. While there has been some moving of tenant faraiers, from whut we see there seems to he less than usual at this season of the year Many of them have adopted the sensible plan, and are leasing for three or live years. The Lilian Tucker Co., open an en gagement of three nights and Satur day matinee at City Hall to tonight, presenting for the opening bill the beautiful comedy “After Many Years.” The following is clipped from the YVilmington, N. C.. Star: “The Lilian Tucker Company gave their second presentationat the opera house last night, and won the glorious laurels as the evening pre vious. The old, old play, "Lady Audley’s Secret,” was produced, and it was received with the same high favor that will be accorded it when performed properly, as it was last night. The sweet, but very dramatic plot of the piece is too well known to theatre-goers and readers to need reiteration. Miss Lillian Tucker portrayed the character of Lady Audley and did it tersely. Her conception of the part was par excellence and her rendition unparalled. Mr. Chas. C. Y’auglit as Luke Marks gave us a finished piece of acting, which the audience recog nized and evinced by lavish applause. In fact all the players were well up in their respective roles and de serve high merited commendation.” Among the play produced by this excellent comyany are, “Cast Adrift,” “Corners of a Great City,” and “La dy Audley’s Secret.” Seats are on sale at Crawley’s Drug .Store, prices lo, 2o and 3o cents. There will be a change of bill nightly. Meeting of County Commissioners. The Board of County Commission ers met in regular se.-sion Tuesday, in the Supervisors office. All rou tine business was transacted. The name of Cherotcee Township No. 2 was changed to Morgan, in honor of Comments on The Ledger. The Christmas number of the Gaff ney Ledger is a model of typographi cal neatness and the entire paper is tilled with choice reading matter and numerous illustrations. The good people of Cherokee county are tunate in having such a thorough going and enterprising a journalist as Ed. H. DeCamp at the heod of their progressive newspaper.—Hampton Guardian. Looking over our exchanges last week we were struck with the hand some appearance of the Gaffney Led ger. That enterprising journal, one of the very best in the State, con tained a suppliment of several pages profusely illustrated with excellent cuts of prominent citizens of Gaffney and Cherokee county.
