Entertainment at Cooper-Limestone.
On the evening of June the sixth,
the Elocution class of Cooper-Lime
stone Institute will present to the
public “Readings and Scenes from
David Copperfleld" as arranged by
James Ella Selmun.
Miss Selmun In her introduction
says: “This arrangement of Dlcken’s
favorite novel, David Copperfiela, is
the outgrowth of a deeply felt need,
that the public exercises of our school
should combine the elements of true
literary und popular taste. Good
literary taste is essential for the cul
ture of the pupils themselves, for the
entertainment of the cultured friends
of the institution, and for the in
struction of the uneducated. But
popular taste should not be disre
garded, as it often happens that in
deep sympathy with the joys and
sorrow of humanity lies not only
much of the success of the enter
tainment, but also much of the cul
ture of the pupil. Heart culture
must go hand in hand with head cul
ture in true expression-work. It is
believed that ‘David Copperfield’
combines perfectly these elements of
literature and popularity.”
Believing that the entertainment
will prove more interesting and en
joyable to those familiar with the
story we make this announcement in
order that those v ho anticipate at
tending may prepare themselves for
enjoying to the fullest extent the
evening’s exercises by reading the
novel.
