The Clara Schumann Ladies’ Orchestra
The Clara Schuman Ladies’ Orches
tra is a decided innovation in the line
of music,and has made a distinct mus
ical hit, and created a furore at the
Metropolitan Opera House. They have
been so warmly received by the pat
rons of the Metropolitan that Mana
ger Scott has decided to play a limited
engagement with the organization at
the Metropolitan Opera House begin
ning tomorrow night. A concert will
be given every Jevening, and mati
nees will be played Wednesday and
Saturday. They have an extensive
repertoire of music, changing the
program at every performance. The
ladies who compose the orchestra
are all thoroughly accomplished musi
cians. It is the novelty of the year,
and their concerts will no doubt be
awarded liberal patronage.—Romo

Will Quit Farming.
M. M. Glover Esq., one of our old and
respected citizens, was in to see us last
Friday. Squire Glover ou account
of his age, has rented out his farm
and will live with his children, who
are thrifty citizens of this and Spar
tanburg counties. We are glad to
learn that he will be a good deal in
Gaffney.
Appointed to a Clerkship.
Carlisle Hollis, of this city, has
been appointed by Attorney General
Barber a clerk in the engrossing de
partment of the next General Assem
bly. We congratulate Mr. Hollis
and the department to which he has
been appointed, for he is worthy and
competent.
A House Burned.
Frank Lattimore, col., near Con
cord church, had the misfortune to
have his house burned one night last
week. He lost everything but his
shot gun. The fire cannot be ac
counted for on any reasonable hy
pothesis.
Will Spend the Holidays at Home.
A number of Cooper-Limestone
girls left last Saturday to spend the
short Chris* nas holidays at home.
Young ladies come back quick, and
bring new ones with you. Gaffney
can’t do without Limestone girls
long.
A New Arrival.
Mr. and Mrs. John Byars are re
joicing over the arrival of a little
daughter at their home last week.
The little lady is as lively as a cricket
and we trust will be the source of
much comfort to the happy pair.
Hon. J. K. Henry.
Hon. J. K. Henry, of Chester, was
in the city last Monday on business
connected with his office as State’s At
torney. Solicitor Henry is one of the
best prosecuting officers in the State
and has many friends in Cherokee.
Churches Last Sunday.
Services were held last Sunday in
the Presbyterian and First Baptist
churches, by the pastors. The day
being rainy tho congregations were
not up to the standard.
