There was a beautiful marriage at Cooper-Limestone Institute last Monday afternoon at 5 o'clock. The contracting parties were Miss Mayme Bailey of Union and Dr. H. A. McConnell of Chester. The cere mony was performed by Rev. B. P. Robertson in the presence of a few friends of the bride and groom. Dr. McConnell was accompanied by his friends Hon. J. K. Henry of Chester, and Messrs. Robt. Munroe and Ed Eison of Galfney. President and Mrs. Mack had the parlors of the Institute most beautifully decorated und by their courteous attention add ed much to the pleasure of the occa sion. The groom and brida left on the 7 o’clock vestibule for Chester accom panied by their friends Hon. J. K. Henry and Misses Alma and Mayme Turner of Granetsvilie. Miss Bailey was educated at Cooper-Limestone Institute and has spent most of her time there since she graduated ami is a great favorite in Gaffney. Dr. Mc Connell is a popular physician of Chester with a lucrative practice. They have the best wishes of Thk Lbdqkr. Mass Meeting. At the Presbyterian church Sun day afternoon at ii o'clock, a mass meeting will be held in the interest of the temperance cause. The follow ing questions are to be discussed: 1. Who are responsible for the ex ecution or non-execution of the laws of our State?—Speaker—H. P. Grif fith. 2. How can we best secure the proper execution of the laws ot our State?—Speaker—Stobo Farrow. 3. How can a prohibitory law against the liquor traffic ha made ef fective in our State?—Speakers— R. O. Sams, J. R. Walker and G. W. Wardlaw. There will be a question box open ed and any citiien may put in a question to be answered at the close of the discussions. Death of Mrs. Caroline Ellis. Mrs. Caroline Rllis died at the home of her son-kn-law Perry Jones last Tuesday week in her fifty-sev enth year. Deceased was one of the best women of onr day. She had been a member of the Baptist church for a number of years and died in the faith. The enterraenttook place at Grassy Pond a week ago yesterday. New Cituens. Mr. J. E. Hellams and family ar rived in the city last Friday from Waynesville, N. C. Mr. Hellams is a photographer and will open a studio in the new Carroll & Carpen ter block as soon as the weather per mits. Mr. and Mrs. Hellams have apartments fitted up in the same block for housekeeping and will make Gaffney their future home. We wel come our new citizens. Resolutions. Hopper and, whereas, brother Hop per was one of our most worthy and efficient members. Therefore be It Resolved 1st, That our commu nity has lost a worthy citizen and our order one of its most worthy and active members.
