Webster took charge of the office of collector of internal revenue last Wednesday, vice Colonel S. A. Townes, removed. His first official act was to rearrange the revenue districts of the state, and the follow ing counties compose the Second Dis trict: Chester, Chesterfield, Chero kee, Clarendon, Darlington, Florence, Horry. Kershaw, Lancaster, Marion, Marlboro, Williamsburg and York— 13 counties. Edmond Doas, colored, has been appointed collector for this district. We know nothing about him. Wm. Phillips Registrar. At a meeting of the town council last Monday night William Phillips was appointed registrar for the mu nicipality of Gaffney, in pursuance of an act of the General Assembly of South Carolina, approved March 5tb, 1890. It will be the duty of all who wish to participate in the next municipal election to apply to Mr. Phillips for a n gistration ticket. i'he appointment is a good one and should give general satisfaction, as Mr. Phillips is doubtless as well versed in election laws as any man in Gaffney. The Hot Supper. The hot supper given by the ladies of the Second Baptist church last Saturday night was the most success ful undertaking of the kind ever at tempted in Gaffney. The crowd was immeuse, the supper was fine and the patronage so great that the entire stock was disposed of before 10 o’clock. The managers were de lighted with their success and a neat sum was realized. The attendants on the different tables looked pretty and fulfilled their mission in excel lent style. An Ancient Coffee Mill. Mr. J. E. Crocker, of this city, has in his possession a home-made coffee mill which has been in the possession of his ancestors 113 years. The wood part is put together with wood pegs which takes the place of nails, while the grinding part is made of steel in which can be seen the prints of the smith’s hammer. He is also the pos sessor of a gourd which measure* five feet and six inches iu circumference. It was growed in Cherokee county. Reduced Rates. On the occasion of the Shelby Poul try Show, which is to be held in Shel by December 7. 8, 9 and 10, the O. R. & C. R. R. will sell round trip tickets for one fare. It is claimed by the promoters that this will be the finest display of land uni water fowls ever seen in the Curolinas. No doubt Gaffney will be well repre sented. Converted into a Dwelling. The old Presbyterian church which was bought by Col. Sam Jefferies and moved to one of his pretty lota, is now being converted into an up-to- date dwelling. Mr. McGehee who is doing the work, has displayed much taste and good judgment in the plans, snd is doing the work in a manner that is creditable to himself and bis help. A Coming Entertainment. Prof. W. L. Johnson is arranging a musical entertainment for the benefit of the Baptist church. It will be pre sented about the 15th, Instant. The best local talent in the city will be en gaged in the entertainment and the event promises to be the best of the kind ever given in the city. Married, On Fr ( day afternoon Mr. Joe Pat terson and Miss Maggie McGarvin, both of this city, were married by R. F. Gibson, N. P., at hie home on Frederick street.
