THIS LEDGER: GAFFNEY. S. C., NOVEMBER 1.5, 1807.
The use of the surgeon’s knife is be
coming so general, resulting fatally
in such a large number of cases, as to
occasion'general alarm.
Mr. William Walpole, of Walshtown,
South Dakota, writes; “About
three years ago, there came under
my left eye a little blotch about the
size of a small pea.
It grew rapidly,and
shooting pains ran
in every direction.
I became alarmed
and consulted a
good doctor, who
pronounced it can-
|Cer, and said that it
*must be cut out.
This I would not
consent to, having
little faith in the
indiscriminate use of the knife. Read
ing of the many cures made by S. S.
S., I determined to give that medicine
a trial, and after I had taken it a few
days, the cancer became irritated and
began to discharge. This after awhile
ceased, leaving a small scab, which
finally dropped off, and only a healthy
little scar remained to mark the place
where the destroyer had held full sway.
A Real Blood Remedy.
Cancer is in the blood and it is folly
toexpcct an operation to cure it. S.S.S.
{"■"nrnntrrd fwr*ly nf of table) is a real
remedy for every
disease of the blood.

Howeli/8 Kkkky, Nov. 22.—News
reached here last week of the death
<f Mr.*. &ac!uul Bti’ain, of IJi^ k-
stock. For a long time tdie has been
a ^consistent member of the Metho
dist church and died in the faith of
the same. She was an Israelite in
deed in wh >m there is no guile.
Truly has the poet said that, “Death
rides on every passing breeze.” She
was buried at Concord church in
Fairfield county.
It was my privilege to attend Ab-
ington Creek yesterday and hear a
very plain and practical sermon
preached by Rev. Mr. Thomason, of
jour citv, from Psalms 37:3. It was
well suited to the times.
Wo notice Bachelor John likes to
play with children, the failing of all
Bachelors.
We were in Gaffney last week.
The extreme low prices of cotton
makes the fanners wear long faces,
but trade continues the same, to
some extent. Gaffney certainly is
assuming her place in the mercantile
manufacturing world.
There will be a singing at S. T.
Estes to night.
More wheat is being sowed this
year than usual. This is certainly a
step in the right direction, if it only
continues. Sambo.
