Some of the Attractions of the Past ,
Week.
The Joshua Simpkins show Wed- !
nesday night a week ago gave prom
ise of being a good one, but the show
was cut to such an extent as to make
it ridiculous. The concert was a
fake pure and simple, and on the
whole, those who paid their money
were swindled. Notwithstanding
this, however, some were well pleased
with the exhibition. There was
material enough for a good show and
they should have given it. The or
chestra was the only redeeming feat
ure of the show. It was first-class.
The oyster sufTper by the Ladies’
Aid Society of the Presbyterian
church last Thursday night was well
attended and the society realized a
neat sum for their trouble. Every
body who attended seemed delighted.
The X-Ray exhibition and lecture
by Prof. Watson, of Furman Univer
sity Friday night was a source of
much pleasure and instruction to
those who take an interest in scien
tific matters. The Professor is a most
pleasing speaker and would greatly
add to the enjoyment if he would
speak more. He made several very
successful experiments with the X-
Ray and delighted the entire au
dience by allowing them to take a
peep at the bones of the bands
through the fluorfescope. The lect
ure was highly praised by those who
attended.
Sam Jones Coming.
The famous lecturer and preacher.
Rev. Sam P. Jonos, of Cartersville.
Ga., is to lecture In this city on Wed
nesday evening, the 17th inst. Mr.
Jones is too well known to need any
Introduction at our hands. Having
heard him a number of times we can
only say we have never heard his
equal and we would not miss it for
twice the price of admission. All
who go may expect the treat of their
lives in the shape of a lecture.
We clip the following from the Sa
vannah News in regard to the lecture
which Mr. Jones, will deliver here:
“Rev. Sam. P. Jones delivered his
famous lecture on " Shams and the
Genuine” in the gymnasium hall of
the Young Men’s Christian Associa
tion last night, and he had not only a
good audience but one that was highly
entertained from start to finish.
‘‘His lecture is looked upon by
those who heard it as one of the
literary gems of the season in Sa
vannah. Mr. Jones’ fame as a lecturer
is international, and he always enter
tains and interests his audience. In
this respect last night was decided y
not an exception. His inimitable wir,
droll humor, and his expressive and
profound pathos and his power of
sentiment are seen in all their full
ness in this lecture, and he carried
his audience with him from rolling
laughter, some of them, almost to
tears, llis lecture was rich in anec
dote, and his striking comparisons
and illustrations of shams and the
genuine article among mankind were
laughable in the extreme.
“He took up the different char
acteristics that constitute the true
man, a lack of which made the sham.”

Run Over by a Mule.
Mr. C. C. Scruggs was knocked
down while crossing the street near
the DuPre Drug Co. last Saturday by
a passing mule. A small boy was
riding the mule and he seemed to bo
unable to manage him. Mr. Scruggs
was not seriously hurt but was badly
frightened.
One of Two Ways.
The bladder was created for one purpose,
namely, a receptacle for the urine, and as
such it is not liable to any form of disease
except l>y one of two ways. The first way is
from imperfect action of the kidneys. The
second way is from careless local treatment
of other diseases.
CHIEK CAUSE
Unhealthy urine from unhealthy kidneys
is the chief cause of bladder troubles. So
the womb, like the bladder, was created for
one purpose, and if not doctored too much is
not liable to weakness or disease, except in
rare cases. It Is situated back of and very
close to the bladder, therefore any pain,
disease or inconvenience manifested in the
kidneys, hack, bladder or urinary passage is
often, by mistake, attributed to female
weakness or womb trouble of some sort.
The error Is easily made and may be as easily
avoided. To find out correctly, set your
urine aside for twenty-four hours: a sedi
ment or settling indicates kidney or bladder
trouble. The mild and the extraordinary
elfect of Dr. Kilmer’s Swamp-Root, the great
kidney, and bladder remedy is soon realized.
If you need a medicine you should have the
best. At druggists fifty cents and one
dollar. You may have a sample bottle and
pamphlet, both sent free by mail. Mention
The Ledger and send your address to Dr
Kilmer & Co.. Binghamton. N. Y. The
proprietors of this paper guarantee the gen
