MONTGOMERY-Mc ARTHUR.
Two of Gaffney’s Popular Young Peo
ple Plight Their Troth.
Tuesday evening at 9:30 at the
home of the bride, in the presence of
a few near relatives and intimate
friends of the contracting parties,
Mr. Michael G. Montgomery and
Miss Frances I. McArthur were made
one, the Rev. J. D. Grout, of the
Methodist church, officiating.
The groom wore a becoming suit of
black of the cutaway pattern, with
white kid gloves, while the bride w T as
attired in white silk organdie and
carried a lovely bonquet of beauti
ful roses and ferns. The cDuple
never looked handsomer than they
did as they stood beneath the floral
arch and were pronounced man and
wife. The parlors were artistically
decorated with ferns and evergreens,
and presented a beautiful appearance.
After the ceremony, refreshments
were served to those present, and the
young couple received the congratu
lations of their friends.
Mr. Montgomery is one of the most
popular young men of the city and
has a large number of friends who
will sincerely wish him much happi
ness.
Miss McArthur is the daughter of
the Superintendent of Education of
Cherokee county, and a lady of sweet
and charming disposition.
The Ledger joins in the congratu
lations and wishes for them much
real happiness on their matrimonial
voyage.
A Lecture on Japan.
Next Monday night at the Metho
dist church Rev. A. S. Ishida, a na
tive of Japan, will deliver a lecture
on the people and customs of his na
tive land. There will be no charge
for admission. A Weldon, N. C.,
paper has the follswing to say con
cerning the lecture and lecturer:
Rev. A. S. Ishida, a native of Ja
pan, converted from heathenism and
idolatrous worship, delivered a lec
ture here Friday evening in the
Methodist church. Owing to the
peculiar manner in which he speaks
the English language the lecture was
naturally amusing, but at the same
time many portions of it were most
pathetic. Especially so was that
portion of the lecture in which he re-
iatod his struggles and trials when
he first accepted the Christian re
ligion. His father was a Buddhist
priest and daily mmistered in the
temple where the poor, deluded chil
dren of darkness bowed down to ido's
of wood and stone. When the son
told of his conversion, he was driven
from home and spurned by his loved
ones. His mother, sister and father
all turned their backs upon him. It
was then the new convert looked up
in perfect faith and said, “Jesus, I
Thy Cross have Taken, All to Leave
and Follow Thee.” Since that time
however, his father, mother, and sis
ter all embraced the true Christian
religion. The father has passed over
the great divide and rests on the
other shore, but the mother and sis
ter now await, with loving arms out
stretched, the return of their hoy.
Mr. Ishida will return to Japan soon
where he will labor faithfully for the
salvation of his old time friends and
associates.

A few weeks ago the editor was tak
en with a severe cold that caused him
to be in a mosjt miserable condition,
It ivas undoubtedly a bad case of la
grippe and recognizing it as dangerous
he took immediate steps to bring
about a speedy cure. From the ad
vertisement of Chamberlain’s Cough
Remedy and the many good recom
mendations included therein, we con
cluded to make a first trial of the
medicine. To say that it was satis
factory in its results, is putting it
very mildly, indeed. It acted like
magic and the result was a speedy
and permanent cure. We have no
hesitancy in recommending this ex
cellent Cough Remedy to anyone af
flicted with a cough or cold in any
form.—The Banner of Liberty, Liber-
tytown, Maryland. The 20 and 50
