C A Show Truly Moral. “The Great John Robineon and Franklin Bros., Enormous Shows combined” are announced to appear at Gaffney in all their vast entirety, on Thursday Oct. 7th, and for one day only, giving two complete per formances, afternoon and evening. All of our exchanges speak in the highest terms of this great amuse ment enterprise, and the many “tough hangers-on” which are so frequently found with large shows, are made conspicuous by their ab sence. There is not a game of chance of any kind permitted on or around the grounds. All the attaches are gentlemen, and there is not a loud or profane word spoken. The three rings and elevated stages are till going at one time, with en tirely different acts. Performers picked from the best the world af fords, and there is more than four score of them, whose combined sala ries would more than equal twice over the entire expense of the every day circus. The daily free street pa rade is one mass of glittering mag nificence, containing “scenes from ull nations” numerous open dens of rare wi’d beasts, twelve kinds of music, herds of elephants and the finc'-t imported horses ever seen with a tented amusement enterprise. The coming of this, the world’s biggest amusement,iscausefor a-'regal” holi day in every city it visits, and it is worth coming a day’s travel to see. _ Attention Veterans. The enthusiasm with which the convention at Greenville adopted the purpose of erecting a monument to the women of the Confederacy was commendable indeed, and worthy of the noble cause und the worthy old soldit rs that espoused it. To make this enterprise the success it merits, will require immediate and persistent effort on our part. We urge, there fore. that the subject be pressed vigo rously in every camp. Let each member of the general committee consider himself the county chair man of his county, and call to his assistance such as he may select to carry on the work of collections, and appoint such sub-committees as be may consider advisable to expedite the work und secure success, adopt ing such plans as he and they may consider advisable. As fust us col lections are made send them to Capt. it. S. DesPortes, Columbia. S. 0., who is the treasurer of the general committee. Please comrades, press this matter now upon the attention of the public, and employ every avail able method to accomplish what we have undertaken. Homo of the camps have promised to try to collect liber al contributions. Let all the rest follow their noble example. Let every surviving soldier contribute to tho monument fund, and secure all he van from his friends. Remember it is to commemorate the chivalrous deeds of your own sainted mother. Cease not your efforts until we bring the cap stone with rejoicing. S. P. H. Elwell, Chairman General Committee. Brown’s Chapel. (Correspondence of The Ledger.) Though, Sept., 21.—Trough is a beautiful cotton mill settlement lo cated just on the outer edge south of our new county. Rrovn’s chapel is located just between the line of Cher okee county and this cotton mill. This church was established several years ago. The name was given in honor to the deceased George Brown. We had the pleasure of helping the loving pastor, Rev. C. F. Felmet, in a series of meetings a few days ago. We had a good meeting, souls being saved, Christians revived, sinners convicted and souls born into the kingdom of God. Thirteen were added to the church; others we hope will come in yet. The good people of Brown’s chapel und around there and in Trough who attended our meeting are the most hospitable people I ever saw. The homes of almost every one we met was open to us. We are sorry we could not stay long enough to visit till the homes and we extend our heart felt thanks to all the people for their kindness to us while there and hope we will he abb to visit t hem in the near future. I and old Mollie fared sumptuonsly. Rev. C. F. Felmet has done a good work there since he has had charge. The church has been repaired, which helps out considerably. I think these noble Christain hearted people will do more improving in the near future. w. i>. K. A Poor Worker.
