Something Concerning Their Respec
tive Offices and Furniture.
The furniture for the various offi-
cer.s in the court house is now all In
nml arranged. Each officer has a
neatly and conveniently fitted office.
County Supervisor Lipscomb's office
is the first on the right-hand side as
you enter the neat aiid pretty little
court house. His office is very neat
ly arranged, and the Supervisor looks
(piite contented and happy us he leans
back in his big arm chair and talks
pleasantly and intelligently with
any one who may have business with
him.
.1 ust beyond the Supervisor's office
and almost directly in front of the
entrance to the building is Clerk of
the Court JelTeries’ office. Kb has
been more fortunate, perhaps, than
any of the county officers, in
that lie lias his office better equipped
than any other. Among other things
is a mammoth safe, a pretty file case
for papers, and one of the latest
improved book racks, besides two
desks, a number of chairs, etc*. Clerk
Jefferies always greets his friends
with a smile and is courteous and po
lite to all.
In the rear of Mr. Jefferies’ office
is the office of Sheriff J. 1>. Ross.
The sheriff is very conveniently fixed.
His office, however, does not resem
ble. in a very marked degree, a sher
iff's office. The fact of the business
is, it lacks such novelties as only a
sheriff's office of some duration can
boast, such us bracelets, gur.s. pis
tols and articles usually confiscated
from the criminal element on their
capture, but these will be added in
I he course of time.
To the left of the entrance and op
posite the clerk’s office is the domi
cile of our veteran auditor and win
some treasurer, Messrs. \\\ 1). Camp
and J. JL Jones. These gentlemen
are most comfortably fixed and they
are as quiet and docile as two lambs.
They are always polite and pleasant
and it is with pleasure one transacts
buincss in their office.
Up stairs immediately over the of
fice of Supervisor is the office ol Pro
bate Judge J. E. Webster. Mr. Web
ster is one of the best house-keepers
in the court house. His comfortable
apartments are always as neat as h
pin—a va«t contrast to the entrance
to the building and the hull-way—
and one can sit and discuss points of
law. and gain information with com
fort while under the re\>f of the Judge
of Probate.
The furniture in these offices was
furnished at % the expense of the town
of Gaffney, and when our friends
from the country call on our officers
they can look around and see what
they have, and remember that so for
they have not been called upon to
pay the extra expense of going to
to house-keeping, us was predicted
would be the case by some who view
ed the new county question in the
negative.
Jeffenes-Jefferies.
On yesterday at 10 a. in. at the
homo of the bride, at Star Farm, Prof.
Davis Jefferies and Miss Mary Jeffer
ies wore united in the holy bonds of
wedlock by Rev. F. C. Hickson. The
wedding was a quiet family affair,
being attended only by the near rel
atives and a few select friends of the
contracting parties.
Prof, and Mrs. Jefferies came to
this city and look the 2 : IS train for
Nasheville, where they go to take in
the Xasheville exposition.
The groom has for the past several
years been engaged in educational
work in Union and is held in high
esteem by all who know him. The
bride is a sister of Cherokee’s Clerk
of Court and a most popular young
lady. The happy young couple have
the congratulations of u host^ of
friends and The Ledger joins in
wishing them longlife and happiness.

Death of an Infant.
Rosa Miller, the twelve month’s
old infant of Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Wil
kins, died Tuesday morning at 9
o’clock, after an illness of several
weeks. Tho little one was teething.
The funeral was conducted from the
residence on Limestone street yester
day morning at 10 o’clock. The in
terment took place at Limestone cem
etery.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilkins have the
sympathy of the entire community
in their bereavement.
A Reference Court.
A reference court will be held In
the office of Probate Judge Webster
in the city to-morrow, in the Flint
Hill gold mine partition case. How
ard Carlisle. Es*q., of Spartanburg,
will be the referee. It is to be hoped
that all parties * i n t erc8 URl will be
present. This trial will be final and
title will be passed. We understand
that northern capitalists ifre anxious
to secure warranty titles and develope
the mine, which, from its past record
and present prospects, is one «>f the
best gold mining properties in the
State. This will be a great thing for
Cherokee county.
