Gaffney’s Importance.
As evidence of (iullney’s growing
importance our city otlicers and busi
ness men are constantly receiving in
quiries about the city, its prospects
and adaptibility to the numerous
businesses unu enterprises they repre
sent. Their inquiries show that out-
siders are looking toward Gailuey.
Answer e very inquiry, state our con
ditions exactly as they are. and with
the ()h:o River andPhurleston railroad,
which will be completed to this point
by the first of October, will come
another five thousand people. The
following is a specimen of the inqui
ries received by some one in the city
every few days:
Mayor A. N. Wood:
Dear Sir: Would you be so kind
as to give me your advice in regards
to GafTney for a location to start the
manutaeturing of pocket knives, and
if tiie city would do anything to help
a manufactory of that kind. Please
let me know if the city is having a
steady growth. 1 have hi on super
intendent of the American shear and
knife manufactory for twenty years,
and understand the business thor
oughly, and should like to form a
company in GulTney if you think J
could sell stock enough.

The Ball Game.
On last Thursday at b o’clock p. m,
the second ball game was played be
tween the second Gaffney’s and the
Fair View’s. The game was u warm
one from start to finish, the score be
ing? to 4 at the close of the 7th
inning, as at that stage it was a game
of checks and Gaffney's next move,
the Fair Views decided it advisable to
to jump and so did, much to Gaff
ney’s surprise as they were ahead.
We hope to have another game at an
early date. Tommie Drown, of Gaff
ney. twirled the globe with those
lanl.i!izing curves of his. The Fuir-
view boys put up a snappy game and
demonstrated to the GalTneyites that
they were no novices at the
American snort.
