Garlington, of the Spartanburg Herald, paid the city a visit this week. » Sheriff Dean, of Spartanburg, was in the city Monday. Earle Colvin,a fomer student of the Gaffney Male and Female Institute and now Deputy Sheriff of Chester county, is in the city attending com mencement. Mrs. J. M. o. Sullivan, of Pools, visited her daughter Mr.-. O. K. Ca mp bell of this place last Week. J. E. Colton, of Union, was in the cit y last Friday. James Ezell, of tiie Battle Ground, was in the city last Thursday. \Ye w'-re pleased to see Mr. Ezell’s com plete recovery from recent severe sickness. It. K. Carson, a prominent attor ney of Spartanburg, was in the city recently on professional business. John H. Morris was in the city last Monday and called on Tilt: Lkdgkk. He is an enterprising merchant of Trough Shoals, and an allround good fellow. Sam \V. Thomas is now installed in J. \V. Bridges’ grocery store. Messrs. J. It. Webster and Charles Sims, M. I)., of Cowpens, paid us a pleasant visit last Thursday. John Estes,of Etta Jane,was in the city last Friday. Mr. Estes is one of Cherokee's thrifty farmers. He sel dom comes to town without some pro duct of his farm to sell. Geo. Moore and Julian Ross of Blacksburg were in the city last Fri day. Mr. G. A. Mills, of Rutherfordton, connected with one of the oldest fam ilies of Gaffney, called on Tut: Lkduer Monday. Wm. B. Williams the efficient Au ditor of York County was in the city las. Thursday. He came on business and was so busy while here that only a few of his friends saw him. Lester McWhirter. a leading mer chant of Jonesville. was in the city last Thursday and while litre, went through our cotton mills. Rev. T. J. Campbell was in the city to see Gen. Gordon and called on him. We are glad to learn that Ed H. Gaines who was so seriouly injured some time ago at Franklin, X. C., is slowly hut surely improving and ex pects to go to his home in Virginia this week. We hope for him a speedy recovery. Our old friend, A. I*. Austell, of Shelby, N. C., paid us a pleasant visit Tuesday. H. M. Maynor, of Star farm, called on us Tuesday. R. E. Porter, a prominent citizen of the Buffalo section,’spent several days in the city this week. M. M. Glover.of Grassy Pond, paid us a pleasant call Tuesday. Mr. Glover is a staunch friend of ours and we are always glad to see him. Miss Lilias Brown, of Averill, S. Mrs. Lue George lias been on the sick list for the past week but is bit ter. Columbus, the little son of James Palmer, has had a slight attack of Pneumonia. Mrs. Josie Sprouse was on the sick list lust week. Willie Kirby has been very sick but is up again. Messrs. F. A. Goforth and James Garnet’ went to Gaffney last week on * \ business. Wheat is ripening now and it seems that the farmers will soon reap their harvest. Will Buice. of Gowdeysville, was down to see us a few days ago. Mrs. J. R. Pool, of our city, visited her son, P. Y. Pool, at Gowdeysville. A. A. tsarratt has completed his new dwelling house and will soon I move into it. Miss Mollie Kirby is on our sick list. We had what you might term a light cyclone here Saturday even ing. The wind blew so that it would just grab a peach tree and go around until it would break it off, and then carry it off apiece. -- Most of Messopotamia’s singing choir went to Foster's chapel yester day. A good many of our people attend ed the sermon to the confederate soiuier.' at Elbethel yesterday. J. ii. Sprouse is on our sick list now. Messrs. A. W.
