Gif Wood, one of Bys rwille’s ac complished boys is staying with his sister, Mr*. Eli Bally, near Waverly, while Mr. Bailey’s time is occupied at Earls, N. 0. K. T. Davis went to Henrietta, last Katurdsy on business. Miss Jennie Hicks a shining star of Henrietta, is visiting her county homo near State Line. Sal Jo*. Draytonville Dots. (Correspondence of The Ledger.) Draytonville, April Id.—Her. C. F. Fclmet filled his appointment at Draytonville yesterday. He preached to a large and attentive audience from I Samuel 12: 24: “For consider how great tilings He hath done for you.” A Sunday School was organized at Draytonville yesterday with R. F. Gibson as superintendent. The fruit is not all killed in this section yet. Owing to the recent wet weather farm work ia considerably behind this year to what it was this time last year. If the weather continue long as ut present I think the farmers will soon be up. We have but very little sickness in our community at present, a. h. c. y. HOW TO FIHD OUT. The first action in the Court of Common Ideas for Cherokee County, was instituted on yesterday, by Co). Thomas B. Butler, for R.S. Lipscomb plaintiff, vs. Andv B. Champion de fendant. for foreclosure of mortgage. The summons and complaint were filed in the Clerk’s office yesterday. Mrs. J. J. Gaffney yesterday re ceived a box of wax beans from Joe Pridmore. her nephew, who lives in southern Texas and is engaged in the fruit and vegetable business. Thev were highly appreciated hy Mr. and Mrs. Jim and Tme Leporr, with whom they generously shared. Clerk of Court J. Eh. Jefferies has made a demand on the clerks of court if Spartanburg. Union and York for the names of the citizens in the por tions cut off from the old county to form the county of Cherokee who are liable to jury duty, and has re ceived the names of those from Chero- kee township. Just ns soon ns all the names are secured the jury for the May term of court will be drawn. The pupils of West End Higli School gave an Easter entertainment Monday night, at the Hchool house which was highly enjoyed hy the large audience present. This is the colored school of which the Rev. R. C. Campbell .« principal, and is one of the best schools for colored children in this section of the State. The ex cellent behavior of the gathering was marked. Bridges left Monday morning for Shelby, where she goes to visit relatives and friends for sev eral weeks. J. S. Harman, of Pine Grove, was in the city Tuesday on business. Mr. Harman is one of Cherokee’s best planters and is as launch friend of The Ledger. J. P. Davis, of Henrietta, was in the city several days last week on business. D. R. Bird, of Pacolet was in the city Thursday. Mr. Bird contem plates moving to Gaffney and enter ing the merchautile field. L. C. Lemons, of Byarsville, X*. C. was in the city .Saturday. Downing, of Trough Shoals, and Miss Amelia Griffith, daughter of Prof. H. P. Griffith, were quietly married hy Rev. Mr. Langston at the home of the brides’ parents, yesterday at 1 o’clock and left imme diately for the residence of the groom who is a practicing physician at Trough Shoals, where he is held in the highest esteem. The bride is one of Gaffney’s most lovely young ladies. Quiet and un assuming she has endeared herself to all who had the pleasure of knowing her and her departure from Gaffney society will leave a vacancy which cannot be filled, We wish the young couple all man ner of happiness and prosperity. It is the time for a re-organ.zatiou of the Camp, and there sre several important mut ters to he considered. The meeting will take place at 3 o’clock, p. in., so that no member need lose more than one-haif of a day by attending. Comrades, let me beg you to turn out and give a few hours of your time to the memories of the past. There is not now much in the future for you and me, but the past is rich in heroes and heroic deeds and appeals to us not to let them be forgotten. Without a more general and punc tual attendance our Camp must dis band, and thereby proclaim to the present generation that the cause we represented is not worthy of preserva tion. Will you consent to such a proclamation? It would bean insult to the bones <>f heroes that for more than thirty years have slept in our sacred soil. H. I’. Very little planting has been done. Little Jesse Kerr, daughter of Mr. Robert Kerr, has been quite sick for the past week.
