Mr. George Lavender, a highly re spected and well known citizen of Cherokee county, died at the home of \V. i). Byar*, his son-in-law. at Al- good, last Thursday, April <Sih, afier u lingering illness. Mr. Lavender was in his seventy-eighth year. De ceased leaves a wife and live children to tnonrn their loss. Mr. Lavender was u most energetic man in his day. He was tlie proprie tor of the Lavender Woolen Mills during the war, and made it famous for the quality of the goefts made. After t he war he sett led down to farm- j ing and other pursuits and made quite j a success of iife. He was known as j a quiet, unassuming man and was lov- J ed and respected by all who knew ! him. The funeral services were conduct- 1 ed from Provide nets Baptist Church. J Friday afternoon, at 1 o’clock, by Rev. B. 1*. Robertson, of the First j Baptist Church, of this city. A large j concourse of friends of the deceased were in attendance. The p'd 1-bearers were F. G. Stacy. W. C. Carpenter, S. L. Hopper, L i. II DeCamp, J. I’. ShutTord, and Cupt. 8. a. Ross. Prof. Johnson’s Concert. A fair sized audience greeted FroP W. L. Johnson and Jits pupils at the Gaffney .Male and Female Seminary lust Friday night. The progrume was replete with good numbers and each performer performed his or her part to tlie entire satisfaction of the audience. The most praiseworthy Lumbers, however, were tlie duet playing of Messrs. Montgomery and Barnett and tlie violin playing of Misses Johnson and McArthur and Master Dever Little. The Sextette by Messrs. Cutting, Barnett.Gregory, Reed and Green B.ua. was exception ally well done. The singing of Miss Roau Gaffney was also a special feat ure. Those who took part. witn the exeeption of the sextette, were a!! pupils of Prof. Johnson and both .Mr. Johnson and his pupils are to Ties, Hats, Shoes, Clothing, You should Imvh some or all of them for the “Easter Tide.” “You have the best line of suits 1 have seen,” said a traveling man about ourolothing a lew days ago.
