hour with a party of friends and, as

gress, died here. He was ill several
months, was in his seventieth year and

Ohio legislature from 1880 to 1865 and
again in the house in 1873, when ho was
speaker. He was in congress three

Treasury Department Deals a Death Ulow

St. Louis, March 30. — What local
liquor dealers declare is a death blow to
bottled cocktails has been dealt here.
The United States treasury department
has decided that all dealers who keep
bottles of cocktails on their shelves for
sale must pay a rectifier’s license.
A year ago a St. Louis liquor mer
chant was requested by the United
States commissioner to pay the recti
fier’s license. He contested the right oi
the government to demand su -h pay
ment, saying he had already purchased
the materials used in compounding the
cocktails and had paid the usual reve
nue license. The case has been pending
hero ever since. It is i.kely that here
after the man who like* his mixed drink*
bottled will have to get it prepared a*
tho bar and take it away fresh.

Kinley’s inaugural address and of the
Indianapolis conference. The resolu
tion recites that in view of the present
inadequate banking and currency sys
tem, it is desirable that congress have
the aid of experts in making cImages.
The commission is to be composted of
four citizsns, eminent in trade, pcAiical
economy and banking, to be appointed
by the president, two senators, to bo
appointed by the vice president, fwo
representatives, to be appointed by the*
speaker and the comptroller of the car-
rency, and tho resolution provides that
it shall report to congress the first Mon
day of next December.

L. Morris, a wealthy mine developer
and property holder, lied hero of
Bright’s dispose after an illness of two
years. Mr. Morris made his fortune in
opening up rich mines, among them be
ing the Morris mines, named for him.
He was also interested in railroad build
ing and other enterprises, in all of
which ho was successful. At the time
of his death ho was president of the
Morris Real Estate company, a big
stockholder in the First National bank

death from jungle fever, last January,
in Central Africa, of Dr. Samuel G. Ar
mour, a young physician in the service
of the Belgian government Dr. Ar
mour was well known socially, and
among the medical fraternity of Brook
lyn. He obtained his medical educa
tion ut the Long Island College hos
pital. Dr. Armour’s father is Thomas
Armour of Millersburg, O. He is a
nephew of Jastice Walker of the fed
eral district of northern Ohio, ut Cleve
land.
