While here Ed gave Sam fifty cents and told him to go to the dispensary and buy a pint of brandy. Sam went and purchased the brandy and brought hack five cents change to Ed. I hey drank a a portion of the brandy together. Finally Sam put the bottle in his pocket. Phi asked Sain to pay for ids part of the stulT. Sam replied that Phi owed him for ploughing and and he would let it go that way. Phi then took the brandy from Sam by force—he being a much larger man than Sam. Sam then went home alone. Phi went homo afterward. During Monday night Phi’s cows got out of the lot and strayed olT. Sam had a calf to get out also. Tuesday morning both men were out looking for their cattle when they mot. They renewed the ditiieulty of the day be fore. Cole's wife heard them and started from her house to where tlie men were. As she passed the spring she picked up a buttling stick and when she reached the men she took a pait in the quarrel. Filially Ed shoved Sam and then the woman struck him with the stick. A gen eral fight ensued in which Sam cut PM with a knife. The blade went in About three inches below u.e left nipple ui.d about two and a half inches from the centre of the body, serving a rib and penetrating the ex treme lower corner of the heart. After being cut Ed went to his house about thirty yard distant, got his gun and fired two times in the direction of Cole and his wife, who were going toward their house, lie then sat down on a bench besides the d >or. afterwards laid down and exp'ncd in about fifteen minut'-s. A voting man named .1. R. Hoard, w ho works for Huskey went to him ami asked if be was hurt. Huskey replied: “Yes, I am cut to the hollow, ’ These were the only words he spoke after being cut. Young Hoard then started fora physician. On the way ho met I. M. .-dnith, a relative of Huskey, to whom lie coin mu ideated the sad news. Mr. Smith went to Cole's home and arrested him and brought him to town and turned him over to Trial .lustice \Ym. Phillips, who sent him to jail. p’sq. I. G. The jury found the following verdict: “We, the jury of inquest, find that the deceased came to his death from a wound inflicted by a sharp-edged and pointed instrument in the hands of one Sam Cole and that said Cole’s wife was an accessory. Cole's wife left in mediately after Cole’s arrest for the home of her step father. near CiilT Lipscomb's. Cole’s aged mother ha I come to see her only boy, and child, in his hour of trouble, and like most mothers, her grief plainly told of the love she bore her boy. Her pleadings were most touching ami twice she gave way under the terrible strain and swooned. While she grieved over the fate of her hoy. he laughed in a maniacal manner and endeavored to be unconcerned. PM Huskey was generally regarded ns a man of good disposition and al though he drank a little ho was not excessive in the habit. He wai a man of large build and muscular. Cole is a small man, but is said to he bad tempered and never allowed anyone to take any advantage of him. -*•*- — — Religious Reacting. Rev. \. J. Mitchell, of Spartanburg, was married Sunday night at the Presby terian parsonage in that city, to Mr. Luther Bennett, formerly of Char lotte, X. C. The Rev. .). W. Watkins officiated. The bride was most ele gantly attired in a lovely Duchess silk which was elaborately trimmed. Neb., April <>.—The dead body of County Treasurer Maxoy Cobb was found in a ditch three-quarters of a mile west of tho penitentiary lie had been missing since Monday.
