double the capacity of The Anderson
Cotton Mills is significant. Cotton
can he manufactured in upper South
Carolina more cheaply than any
where else in the world and the
monied men are finding it out. In a
few years wo will he a manufacturing
people, and can turn upon the North
the shibboleth with which she has
fought us for so long. The value of
our lands and our products will
increase with the number of our
factories, and the “good old times”

The stockholders of the Durham
Shoals (N. C.) Cotton Mills are paying
in 20 per cent, of their subscriptions
and the erection will soon bo begun
by E. R. Cash, the superintendunt,
late of Gaffney. S. C. J. A. Carroll
is president of the company and H.
J). Wheat, of Gaffney, treasurer and
manager; J. D. Wardlaw, also of Gaff
ney, is secretary.
The new Gaffney mills are now
carding, spinning and have 17b of
their new 10-inch Draper looms going
in first-ela-ss shape. They are having
no trouble in starting these looms oil
and are much pleased with them.
There will be 1010 Draper and BOO
Whitin looms. E. J. Barnett, recently
of Clifton Mills, has charge of weav
ing, slushing and drawing in both
Nos. 1 and 2 mills.
