Tired, Weak, Nervous
Could Not Sleep.
Prof. L. D. Edwards, of Preston,
Idaho, says: “I was all run down,
weak, nervous and irritable through
overwork. I suffered from brain fa
tigue, mental depression, etc. I be
came so weak and nervous that I
could not sleep, I would arise tired,
discouraged and blue. I began taking
Dr. Miles’ Nervine
and now everything is changed. I
sleep soundly, 1 feel bright, active
and ambitious. 1 can do more in one
day now than I used to do in a week.
For this great good I give Dr. Miles’
Restorative Ncrviue the solo credit.
It Cures.”
nr. Miles’ Nervine is sold on a positive

: good men and women. And, as the
! well conducted newspaper is an edu-
i cat or of the highest type, there is no
better place for laying tlie founda
tion of future usefulness and great-1
ness (at less cost) than by patroniz
ing it and writing upon such subjects I
as will interest others and at tlie
same tim.^ develop within the nma-
tuer that power wliieh will ultimately
lead them to a higher sphere in life.
I quote from a religious paper:
“There is an idea in the minds of
many who ought to know better, that
the nnmtucr writer stands on the low
est platform of distinction, and that
he who is able to command in any
capacity, no matter how humble, the
; attention of tlie literary world, is
i vastly his superior. There never was
a greater mistake than this.” A
! writer who once held a prominent
place in litcratur?, and who hud tin*
i reputation of being successful, re
marked :
“I do not hesitate to pronounce a
I successful amatucr writer of far
| greater importance than the estab-
j jislicd mediocre, and I would take
I chances any day in regard to distinc-
! tion.”
There is no place in the world so
liard to till us that of tin* amatucr
writer. In writing u man of an cs-
; tablishcd reputation need not bother
himself much about what he is to
write. Nor need lie, after establish
ing himself before the public and
getting the knack of writing, give
much attention towards maintaining
the standard he lias already acquired.
Hut tlie amatucr must produce the
' best possible; lie must reach the pub-
| lie ear by tlie choice of tlie best sub
jects; in 1 must lie aide to discuss the
trend of the public mind and produce
that which will please the popular
i taste; he must he keen, concise and
original; he must study the minds of
men in order to produce that most in
accordance with existing views; in
short he must he wiiat is termed "an I
1 all round man.”
It, of course, is lids in the amatuer j
that makes such splendid opportu-'
i nity for the possible and ultimate I
j achievements in the profcs.-oonal.

Index do New Advertisements.
The merchants of Gaffney are
showing their faith in midsummer
advertising. They certainly adver- ;
tisc like business men of long ex
perience in advertising. Not con
tent to allow the slow season to take j
care of itself they propose to make ;
their business bigger by continually 1
hammering away at it. And now |
the readers of Tin: Lkdckk should:
not neglect their part. Their part is ;
to patronize Lcdcku advertisers he- i
cause they can secure better bargains 1
from tlie wide-awake advertiser than
t h(*y cun from the man who has not |
got energy enough to push his trrde.
Then again, when trading with Lkd-
cKit advertisers never fail to tell
them where you saw their ad. They
will ho just a little more polite to
you and give you the benefit of their
lowest prices if you do. The follow
ing are tlie changes in our ad columns
