Only two wie'.s ago a (1 ti visit to
Bennettsville revtai ■: one of tin
prettiest towns in tl**' state, i'eaiiti-
ful residences, elegant stores, slat.ly
trees were on every Iian l. In a few
hours much of this lias been changed.
What has happ ned at Mennctls-
ville at I’liion at \'ansville and else
where is likely any time to happen at
Gaffney. Fortunate hav v.c lieen,
very fortunate, but we fold our arms
and sleep as quietly and as sweetly
as if water was already provided and
a good fire department was on hand
with every' needed appliance.
Our town is growing. We cannot
longer delay facing t lie situation. The
emergency is upon us. There are
many things we think we ought lo he
provided with, but ‘ water'’ is one
we can’t do without.
