The thriving little town of Cheraw,
on the great Dee Dee river, at tlie
head of steam boat navigation, though
not the county seat of Chesterfield, ; broad Daeitie. and this .-lie will have

The tonn is beautifully laid out, with
streets 108 feet wide, and three rows
of trees down each—one on either
side, and one down the central.
Very diirerent is it in these respects
from the towns first settled in tins
country by emigrants from the old
world. Boston, New York, Charles
ton, Georgetown, St. Augustine—all
bear evidence to the fact that, in as
sociations, at least, their first set
tlers had not withdrawn fur from the
crowded thoroughfares of London or
Liverpool or Amsterdam, it always
seemed strange to us that with aeon- |
tinent at their back, the early set- i
tiers should have so huddled their
houses together on streets hardly

drive abreast. Cheraw has good rail
road connections and is on the eve of
better. Her business men are pro

brighter than ever before.
