There is not a liberal citi
zen in all (iaiTnoy that will not a] -
plaud the efforts of our nrocrres-ive
mayor and worthy city fathers to
promote (laffnoy’s well-fare. An im
portant tnovement is on foot to build
a city ball, in fact the matter is
beginin^; to assume some defitiite
shape. It is proposed to erect aj
building that will meet the demands
of this rapidly growing city no-
twenty years to come and In re is one
of t he plans proposed :
First—To erect a building whit b
will contain on tbo ground (loot- a
mayor's court room, prisoner's cells
a city clerk’s oiiiee and the mayor’s
private otlice. These can be suitably
arranged and can lie built at a nomi
nal price.
Second—The second floor will he a
neat and attractive opera house with
ample stage room, dressing rooms
and private boxes. The seating ca
pacity will he about atMt inciudnig
the gallery.
As matters now stand the city lias
no mayor's court room, tin; city
prison is inadequate and too weak,
the city clerk lias no oiiiee execrit Ids
his private olli -e. and altogelli r. we
are sadly in need of more modern
conveniences.
t^uite a number of the lieiness men
of the city have been approached on
the subject by Mayor Littlejohn and
there has not been a dissenting voice
so fai. Encourage our mayor and
the board in this matter and we may
rest assured that it will not be long
before work will begin on ialfm y's

“God is love,” was dealt with in a
masterly manner. The speaker was
at thues sublime, entwining pathos
and passion in a graphic yet compre
hensive manner. It was without
doubt the best of Ids sermons so far
and it will be ditlicult for him to sur
pass it.
Tonight Dr. Pritchard will speak
on “Early piety” and all who go may
expect to learn something that will
benefit and instruct them.
The weather lias been -all that
could be desired for the past week
and the congregations have been of
such a nature as to completely fill
the building every night.
The music has been a feature of
the meetings. Prof. Johnson lias
been performing on the organ almost
every night and Miss Minnie Carroll
has sang some beaut iful solos while
the choir, as a whole, have rendered
some beautiful music.
Tomorrow morning at Id o'clock
three deacons will be ordained and
Dr. Pritchard will at that time
talk on “The deaconship.” Dr.
Pritchard will return to Charlotte
for bis Sunday scrvice.
It has not yet been determined
when the meeting will close.

B. DuPre treasurer. Two local teams
will bo organized to do practice- work
and will play about twice a week.
