been going to school at Shelby for
some time, spent a few days last
week with her parents at this place.
W. W. Hopper and Miss Esteli
Lavender and \nthony Lavender and
Miss Nora Byars, formerly of Earls,
N. C., passed through this section
last Saturday.
Willie Mealon.of Blacksburg. S. 0.,

munity last Saturday night.
David Champion and Miss Alice
Hopper were united in marriage
Wednesday, March, 27th at the home
of the bride’s parents. The groom
and attendants left here at 11 :1{0 for
the scene of tho wedding. After a
drive of about one mile the party ar-! lect our
rived at the quaint yet pretty home
of the parents of the bride elect. At
11:5t) those who had gathered to
witness the ceremony assembled in
the parlor on the north side of tlie
house and at 12 the betrothed pair
were united by Ilev. Xutc Hawkins.
The bride was attired in a becoming
suit of tan cashimere while the groom
wore a becoming suit of fashionable
black.

K. A. Mayfield, colored, teacher of
the Ashworth colored school, gave an
entertainment at the close of his
school Saturday. The exercises all
round were good considering the dis
advantages. Cloven foot was on the
outskirts doing his work.
It is a shame how some young peo
ple will conduct themselves to bring
shame and disgrace on the races in
our much boasted land of freedom.
