aive »>f serious loss. Farmers are out
fightin)f the tire. l,ut it is spreading s<,
rapi<lly that little or no headway
atraiust it ean be made. The situation
at Neelyville is alarming and farmers
are fighting day and nieht to save their
homes and buildings.
The tires iji north Mississippi and
west Teniu’ssi'e continue to ra^re with
unabated vijfor. The tires have made
their way into Alabama in the vieinity
of Florence, following the line of tin-
Tennessee river, whose banks are
heavily wooded. Many men in the
Shoal creek neighborhood near Flor
enee are engaged in lighting the tiames
t<» keep them from the settlements, yet
n dozen houses have ln-eii burned down,
barns, fences and crops swept away.

to tight the Haines from Ids fences.
When he returned to his home, it was
in ashes. This is the experience of
hundreds of settlers. The village of
Hollywood, Miss., is surrounded by
tire and in great danger. Near lien-
ova, Miss.. Harry <I'.vley and wife,
white and aged, were burned to death.
