The Strange Actions of a Mother To
wards Her Child.
Last Saturday its the 2:07 South
hound Southern drew up to the sta- |
tinn a woman, it stranger to j
those who were present, leading a !
little child hy the hand, was seen to |
leave the wading room and go to- |
wards the train. When slot got into j
the crowd on the outside she let the |
hand of the child go and leaving it in
the crowd got on hoard tin* train,
the train moved otT. the woman be
ing on hoard. There was a large
crowd about the depot and no one
seemed to notice or care for the little i
waif left behind. In fact few people
had taken any notice of the woman,
thinking, perhaps, t here was some one
there to look after the little one.
Mr. (ieo. T. Kerris, who works in
the mill at night, was silting over on [
the freight platform just across the
track. lie noticed the little one
walking about aimlessly, first going
into t he wait ing room then coming
out and looking in the direction
which the train took, then going in
the tclgraph office, coming out and
looking after the train. Mr. Kerris
went over and made impiires about
the child and discovered that no one
knew anything about it. He took
the little one home and has taken
care of it ever since.
When Tin: Lki*oi:ij man called at
Mr. Kerris’ home he was greeted hy
Mrs. Kerris with a cherry good-morn
ing and invited in. As she took her
seat she was surrounded by a half
dozen little ones—for Mr. and Mrs.
Kerris have seven of their own. three
girls and four hoys. The kindly-faced
lady had been preparing potatoes for
the noon meal and the little waif had
a huge one in his hand. Mrs. Kerris,
in answer to iuiplir'u s. said: "Yes.
this is the little fellow. My husband
brought him home, and. although we
have a house full, we will try and
take care of him. He is very bright
and my litth baby, .lames Nathan,
has taken up wit h hi m a (ready . In fact
the children all take kindly to the
lit t le st ranger. Ile seems like one of
our own and my hushund say> he

About this time Mr. Kerris came
in. He has a kindly expression of
face and greeted the newspaper man
pleasantly. Ilis story was in -ub-
