A similar petition was read asking ^tor the extension of East Limestone street, that is. that Limestone street be extended from the railroad east- ward to the ineor|>ornte limits of the town. This petition was likewise re ferred to the street eoniinittee to he reported on at the regular meeting in May. A cominunieation was read from , Capt. R. M. Gaffney, agent of the R. Si I). making eomplaint as to I In- boys playingand lounging around the de.iot 'grounds and cotton platform to the annoyance of railroad employees, j The council agreed to assist as far as possible, and instructed the chief of police to that effect. So look out, boys, for the railroad agent and the ! police are after you. The hoard of health made along and elaborate recommendation to the council looking to the good health and comfort of the town. Their sug gestions were considered section by section and approved. The chief was instructed to carry out suggestions. The following gentlemen compose the board: Dr. M. W. Smith. A. N. Wood. R. S. Lipscomb and S. L. Hoji- per. On motion of Alderman Met 'raw the Mayor was authorized with the railroai lifer Torities and re quest that >> ., rfie old guano houses, now COQip* ed out of date and not in the proper place, if not a nuisance, he removed from where they are now located. The street committee reported that work would begin on the streets this The ordinance which is published elsewhere in this issue was then passed. The ordinance relating to reckless driving and riding was a mended by changing the penalty from “not less than One Dollar nor more than Five Dollars" to “not exceeding Fifty j)ol- lars or more than thirty days iiiipris- inent.” - - ■« * — ESAU AND JACOB. Prof. Griffiths Magnificent Talk to Young Men. The crowd which \. etil down to Limestone last Sunday to hear I’rof. Griffith was larger than on the pre vious Sunday. • ^ ^ The ii»l‘.«s ng:;t: , t<M>k advantage of the occasion and made a trip. After the Sunday-school lessons had been recited Prof. Griffith addressed the young men, clioosingus Ids subject the “Lives of Ksatl and Jacob.” The speaker handled his subject inn pleas ing, graceful manner, and brought about tlie contrast in the liven of those two Hildical characters inont vividly. He told how Ksau. the con. tiding, whole-souled, generous, manly man had unwittingly Irecomc the vic tim of Jacob, the cunning, the avari cious. tlie parsimonious, the penuri ous. Jacob bud doubtless inherited some of Ns cunning from Ids mother, as site seemed to la- the instigator. The Profess*.«• begged the young to la-ware of the first false step, using as an il lustration a comical incident of Ids own experience. His talk was with out oratorical affectation, yet so clear and effective that it riveted theutten- t ion of his audience from la-ginning to end. The mush* at Limestone is excel lent, in fact it isthe la*st choiramiind here, and this too, in view of tin- fact that there is not a male voice in it. The young ladies sing with an easy grace which is refreshing to listen to. They sing like it was a pleasant duty which they enjoyed. Prof. Griffith told a LKiMiKii representative lie would like have the assistance of aiaait four young men for Hie choir. With lids addition it would la- complete.
