The next place was the home of
Prof. R. <>. Sams, editor of Tiik,

seminary sentinels greeted the scr-

fows:
“I am proud of the result of today’s
labor. I rejoice with you in this re

these elections once a year. We have

In the intendent you have the com-

of the Lipscomb House, headed by

residence of Mr. W. N. Wood, there-

him. Ilis Honor was called u|s*n for
a speech, hut it was stated he was
“not at home” to the serenaders, so
they were disappointed. The pro

owing to tin* illness of Mr. and Mrs.
M. R. Sam’s child, they decided no to
go there and went to the residence of
Mr. W. Carpenter, one of the re
tiring aldermen, who resides on Lime
stone Avenue, He was serenaded,

hut declined to make a speech. The
procession moved on to the residence
of Mr. H. I). Wheat, one of the new

Wheat was called for. He came to 1

all push together and in my opinion
something will come. Our town
needs several things to make it a
more desirable place for people to
locate, in while we now have as good
people as can be found anywhere,
excellent' educational advantages,
pushing business men, the best look
ing girls in the State and many other
things to he proud of, yet we need
some other things to put us on a par
with other thriving towns, one of
these things is a system of Water
Works, another. Electric lights for
streets, business houses, residences
and churches, get these and other im
provements will follow; we need small
as well as large industries; let each
citizen make it a rule to talk up his
town to all strangers he meets,
show them what we already have and
tell them what we intend to have,
induce out side capital to seek invest
ment with us and l*efore we know it
we will have a town of .'*100 inhab
itants. L’d political feelings be
thrown aside and let each of us,
white ami colored alke pull for the
building up of ‘‘(iatfney” the l*est
little town in South Carolina.”
After the music, the procession
moved on to the residence of I'rof.
W. F. McArthur. The hand played
and the Professor was called on for a
speech. The Professor is neither an
alderman retiring nor an elect, hut is
popular, rnr rhatrmaa of the r.on.-

good citizen. He spoke a* follows:
“I want to congratulate the citi
