Folks Will Talk.
One of our citizens visited a mer.-
chant in the country the other day
and the following dialogue took
place:
Merchant—Who is it making such
a racket with cheap groceries in Gaff
ney ?
Citizen—Why, Alexander A Co., of
course.
Mir.—What have they got?
Cit.—They have meat, lard, sagar,
coffee, tobacco, and in fact, nearly
everything in the grocery lino.
Mer.— How can they afford to nearly
give away goods like that?
Cit.—Why, they bought Cook’s
entire stock very cheap and will give
their customers the advantage of it for
the next 20 days.
Mer.—I think I shall call on them
the next time I am in town.
Cit.—They will treat you white.
Don’t forget the place—Cook’s old
stand. Good day.
Thunk you, gentlemen, come often.
Respect fully.
