| 1IIIS IS THK BEST OPPORTl NTTY Gaffney and surrounding
j country has ever had to buy Clothing, and they will not have
such a one soon again. These arc fresh, new goods, and
bought at the lowest prices goods ever reached. McKinley will
be going in early next year with his high tariff on wool. Then
here goes higher all woolen goods, Clothing among the first. We
have entirely too much and must turn it into Cash.

Some men go to terrible extremes
to carry a point. The story is now
being circulated that Senator Till
man will not be here to speak on Sat
urday. This is done to keep the peo
ple away. There is not a scintilla of
truth in it. Senator Tillman will
surely bo here unless providentially
hindered. Everything is in readi
ness. A special train will he ntr.
from Blacksburg that day in order
that the people of Cherokee township
may come to hear him. Everybody
in the proposed new county, whether
, r fir or against it, should he present.
Lefc the new county give him a reetp-
tion altogether worthy of the occa-
1 sion and the man and the honored
position lie holds. Come one. come
nil Gulioey extends acordial invita-
1 lion to everybody.
On Friday afternoon Messrs. I.
Davenport and Ed. H. DeCamp will
go to Charlotte to meet Senator Till-
i man and escort him to Gaffney. When
j he arrives here ho will be
| placed in the hands of the re-
| coption committee, which con-
i sists of Mayor A. N. Wood, Col.
i Wm. Jefferies, Capt. It. M. Jolly,
j Messrs. F. II. Dover and E. II. Do-
| Camp, who wiil look after all his
; wants and comforts.
The arrangement committee, con
sisting of Alderman L. Baker, Dr. J.
F. Garrett, Mr. J. D. Jones, 1’rof. W.
F. .McArthur, and Col. Samuel Jef
fries, have about completed all their
arrangements. Should the weather
ho fair the speaking will take place
in the open square in front of Car-
roll A Stacy’s bank. Should it prove
inclement other arrangements will he
made.

Tiik Lkdoek was permitted to visit
! the band room and listen to their
; practice. In Conductor Cutiing they
! have a most devoted teacher. His
] whole soul is in the movement, and
the fact that they have had but four
weeks’ practice and can now render
in a creditable manner a number of
selections is proof positive of his ef
ficiency. This is especially so when
you take into consideration the fact
that a large per cent, of the mem
bers have never before known any
thing of music. Tlie following is the
list of the members, together with
the instruments they play:
S. L. Cutting, B-flut cornet and
conductor.
J. D. Wood, E-flat cornet.
J. W. Green, B-flat cornet, soio.
