caterpillars in Broad Swamp and vicinity
are now dying out, tKfit in the swamp
they have drifted against logs by the cart
load, and a perfect stonch is formed from
the putrifying mass, and that in some of
the orchards they attacked not a bloom
or leaf was left on the trees.
A Uemaukable Trek.—There is a
remarkable sycamore tree on Mr. Jos.
W. Steele's plantation, on Fishing creek.
Mr. Steele telle os that one day daring
the late extremely cold weather he miss
ed four men whom be had at work near
by and after searching for them a few
minutes be foand them in a hollow ja
the sycamore tree sitting around a fire
roasting potatoes. The tree is now only
a shell, is about twenty-fire feet in cir
cumference, and it is said that a mao
may lie down in the* hollow and stretch

head of feet touching the tree. Tradi
