At one time when a prisoner in the
hands of the Britiah at Detroit, he waa
particularly admired by English officers
on account of his great strength and
courage, and the many remarkable ex
ploits for which he was famous; and
one of these officers, observing hia fond
ness for smoking and the difficulty in
lighting a pipe, presented Kenton with
a powerful pocket burufng-glas-i or lens,
by wldch he could easily focus the raya
of the sun oh the tobacco and set it on

These early Greek alchemists held that
all metals were composed of two sub-

greatly on the increase. The New York
Truth learns that the largest dealer in
Boston sells about 150,000 frogs per
year at an average of sixty cents per
dozen. In the busy season he employs

New Hampshire, catching frogs, which
are shipped alive in boxes prepared for
