' Look acnin, my door friend, at the orw- fully printed columns, the diffwent infe, foreign, hose sod domestic i!m ait ami humor. Think for a mo ment when yon gate at it how the editor has tried to please yen. There is proba bly uo class of men more overworked tlian these, no labor more wearing th*.v mental labor. It is so easy to try out, "Nothing in the piper,” for those who know little of the drudgery, the pnins- takif.g. tbe hours of mental weariness, the tedious compositions. It is n com mon tbiug for a person, when not exactly suited, to exclaim : “There is nothing in the paper.” In a railroad car I once obi serv-.d two gentlemen purchase copies of the same edition of a paper. Ooe soon bended it to a neighbor, exclaiming ; ‘■Hera, Sam, have the morning paper.— There is nothing in it to-day ; is is hardly worth rending. ” The other gentleman continued io be absorbed. Presently the tuttu by his side asked him what interests ed him so much. ‘‘Everything; the paper is wcll-gotteu up this morning; the editorials arc especially fine.” Thii proves that what- pleases one does not suit the other. Be vssured it is no child's play to edit and conduct a newspaper ; it is a very tedious, important and re sponsible position, and the man who manages a well circulated, satisLctory newspaper has almost the wisdom of a Solomon. Let those who doubt take tho editor’s place for a while, nothing more is needed for a grumbler. Oar friend, when she is temptc-i to make such silly rcatorks, had better pa me to consider whether tbs fault be in tbe paper or her ul)> little In AlBgntorn are tbe Intent faohinn pets In Now York ; tbminaodn of tb< yowof nanrlnna art beta* ourncl nod I etofod for kv tka ba Ira of tba metropo- • Its.
