Hon. G D. Tillman favors the em

putting off payment of takes until the

jond our capacity to serve tbettt. Don’t
mlaunderspisd me. I don't blame the
peoptu for putting it iff. On the other
baud I think they have great reason
for congratulating tbemtielves. We
have hud a most disastrous year, mak
ing not more than a half crop of our
staple productions, yet tbejMsople have
come up almost to a man and paid
their takes. I think It one of the uiodt
unprecedented circumstances that has
occurred In the memory of the oldest
cltixeu. Poverty and want are staring
up and shown their loyalty to the
country.
One word more. Our Legislature
will meet soon. I hope our Immediate
representatives (and all the others) will
take into consideration the great im
portance of calling a Constitutional
Convention. Tbe State Constitution
under which we are pew living was
made Inltadioal days, when Ignorance
and stupidity ruled and when thieving
was the order of the day. I think tbe
people of gvand old South Carolina
owe it to themselves to shake off this
incubus of Radicalism and clothe tbeir
proud old mother State In a new drees
worthy of her former self. Tbe people
only have to say so and It will be so.
Yours very truly,

shirt sleeve farmers, as you style them,
and whom we consider the very bone

of the number. Large places generally
with us had more timber with which to

in our county gets a monopoly of labor
on account of better pasturage. That is
regulated more by luo settlement than
any other way with us.
