We will’ with pleasure. The true sto
ry of her life has never been told. As
her multitudinous desceudante in this
county are now happily dead we, at
this late date, correct tho erroneous
accounts contained in so called histo
ries. Pocahontas was the eldest daugh
ter of Powhataar- an Indian King in
Virginia. 8ho had a terrible temper,
chewed tobacco, swore like a trooper
and broke her father by her extrava
gant millinery bills. As Powhatan was
reported to bo licit site-had many ad
mirers, but rejected all. Ou her 27ih
birthday her father was donned for a
bill for tomabatfks and didn’t have a
nickel. He called bis daughter Into
his private office and Told her that he
must make an assignment unless she
wonld marry a rich old Indian with a
broken nose. She swore she would die
an old maid first, but agreed to put up
a little leap year game on Capt. John
Smith, a rich Englishman, who was
traveling for bis health. Powhatan
Invited Smith t©!# corn dance, plied
him wpll with whiskey, raised a quar
rel and was about to break his bead
with a hickory stick when Pocahontas
came to the rescue, saved Smith's
head bdt almost smothered him with
an Indian hug. Smith saw through
