The generous citiscns of Spartanburg
gave us an excursion to the mountains
oh tho 20th. The morning was dear
aadboautiful, and as we went in open
fia‘. cars we had every opportunity of en -
joying the magnificent scenery. As I
had visited Hendersonville before I was
a little less enthusiastic than others
On our return we stopped at Saluda, on
the top of the mountain, for three hours;
’twas indeed a picturesque sight, over
two hundred “weary teachers ’ and their
friends scattered hero, there everywhere,
gathering ferns, rocks, etc., forgetting
every care in that delightful invigorating
breeze. A shrill shriek from the engine
warned us to hasten on board the train,
and ere we were seated the rain drops
eome “gently pottering down parasols
were opened, but who thought of taking
wraps such a lovely morning?- Looks
' of dismay soon overspread every counte
nance, for wi'h our increase of speed the
violence of tho storm increased ; but oh I
it was grand beyond description, that
storm among the mountains! One min
ute we were above the clouds and eould
see the rain far below, the next turn in
onr serpentine course would bring a*

I will jost here «y that the heavient
yield of oats I ever get is from the mixed
oats, which were originally pure rod,
but are now nearly equally divided. I
now pure red oats to sell, and the mixed
to feed to my mules the year round, with
a very few lead* of corn during the year.
I do believe on land where there is
mnch tendency to ruat, the pure red
oat is the bert to sow. But evon this
rusty year, my mixed oats are immeas
urably better tliau tho pure red.—Felix
Lake, in Edgefield Advertiser.

It is s matter of the most common
