The next day wa« the (fast day of the
grand preparation. AH hands began
early to clean np the house and set the
banquet table. They kiudly permitted

kindly locked the doof when I came out.

and come to the conclusion that it wasent

to make the best of it. I comforted my
self by calling to mind that some thirty

The Complexion—To make the com;
plexion white aud soil, use tepid water
eewtaiiiing a little powdered borax for
bathing the face and hands eveiy morn
ing and atoning.
Potato Salad—-two cups of mashed
potato rubbed through a cullender;
three-quarters of firm white eobbage,
chopped fine; two tablespoonfuls of cu
cumber or gherkin pickle, also chopped;
yoks of two hftrd boiled eggs, poanded
to powder; mix all well together.
. Milk Chocolate—Melt six ounces of
chocolate over steam, add one quart ot
milk awl two ottoftea of powdered su
gar. When scalding hot poor it upon
ths yolks of fivs eggs beaten up with a
eup of cold milk. Add half a teaspoon-
ftd of extract of vamlla or orange flowor
water, milling or stirring it very fimt,
and aenre at onca.
Wafera—One pound of sifted flower,
two tablespoonfula of bwtUr; little tak;
enough milk to make otiff dengh. Rah
the hotter into the Ballad flow; wet with
the milk; roll thin; cut iota email round
cekee; and roll those again into oaks# aa
