A gentleniiin by the name of Vaughn
residing in Edgefield county, died
several months ago. A few days buck
a man by the nume of Fay, who had
been Ii the employment c-f ids widow,
Mrs. Ida 8. Vaughn, and as we under

statement that he and Mrs. Vaughn
had b»en criminally Intimate, and chat
he (Foy) and Mrs. Vaughn had pois
oned Mr. Vaughn to get him out of
their way. In u letter to the Edge-
field Advertiser, Mrs. Vaughn, after
denying the statement made by F<»y,
in the most emphatic manner, says :
'“Had I been so infatuated and
enamored with Mr. Foy as to poln ti
my husband on his account, the mo«f
natural sequence of the crime wouln
have been the consummation of its
purpose by marrying him afterwards.
By joining him iu so heinous a crime
I would have placed myself so much
in his power as to make it a necessity
for me to tnari-y him.”
After repeating the denial of her
having had anything to do with, or
any knowledge of the poisoning of her
husband, she says:
"The whole story has been concoct
ed by Mr. Foy t 4 o revenge himself upon
me because I refused to accept his
proposals Of marriage, made to me af
ter Mr. Vaughn's death, and because
I could no longer keep him on my
premises on account of his pressing
these proposals and iris too frequent
use of intoxicating liquors to tho neg
lect of business.”
She wishes the body of her husband
exhumed and sabjected to a chemical
analysis. ’
In a note, calling attention to Mrs.
Vaughn’s lettet, the Advertiser says:
“As for ourselves, until tho contrary
is proved, we shall believe wbut sue
