A few days buck a man by the nume of Fay, who had been Ii the employment c-f ids widow, Mrs. Ida 8. Vaughn, and as we under stand it, had Deen In the employment of Vaughn before bis death, made the statement that he and Mrs. Vaughn had b»en criminally Intimate, and chat he (Foy) and Mrs. Vaughn had pois oned Mr. Vaughn to get him out of their way. In u letter to the Edge- field Advertiser, Mrs. Vaughn, after denying the statement made by F<»y, in the most emphatic manner, says : '“Had I been so infatuated and enamored with Mr. Foy as to poln ti my husband on his account, the mo«f natural sequence of the crime wouln have been the consummation of its purpose by marrying him afterwards. By joining him iu so heinous a crime I would have placed myself so much in his power as to make it a necessity for me to tnari-y him.” After repeating the denial of her having had anything to do with, or any knowledge of the poisoning of her husband, she says: "The whole story has been concoct ed by Mr. Foy t 4 o revenge himself upon me because I refused to accept his proposals Of marriage, made to me af ter Mr. Vaughn's death, and because I could no longer keep him on my premises on account of his pressing these proposals and iris too frequent use of intoxicating liquors to tho neg lect of business.” She wishes the body of her husband exhumed and sabjected to a chemical analysis. ’ In a note, calling attention to Mrs. Vaughn’s lettet, the Advertiser says: “As for ourselves, until tho contrary is proved, we shall believe wbut sue says.” And we have this to say for prove it, ot 1 take tho consequences.
