place for ten or fifteen minutes. . Then,

milk and seasoned with pepper and

and fry in hot lard, (like doughnuts,)
until a delicate brown, drain and serve
on a hot platter, with cold slaw, chop
ped pickles, or chow-chow.
Oyster EjTEW.—Put the liquor from
oystet# on the stove, let boil, skim,
and season with butter and pepper,
add oysters let come to a boil only,
season with salt and serve. Ttt« is
pronounced a “royal stew” as it IhjyoI
diluted with iqTIlc df^wat»?r, but it* is
very rich, and I ad vise the following :
Take one quart of oystefs, put the
liquor (a tcacupful for three) in a stew
pan, sad add half as much- ru<
water, a good hit of pepper, a toacup-
ful of rolled crackers, for each, pul on
the stove nod let it boil; the moment
the liquor begins to boil, pour In
oysters. Watch carefully, and as
soon a« it begins to boil benmt juet
thirty and'take oysters from the stove.
Save tureen ready with one and a
half tablespoonsful of hot milk ready
{ for e.vh person.—Pomr your stew otr
the milk and serve Immediately.
Cocoanut Pie.—One small cup of
prepared cocoanut roaKod in a pint of
sweet milk, two powdered crackers
yolks of two egph, four tablespoonsful
of sugar and a email lump of butter;
mix ail thoroughly and. bake without
upper’crusl'jTtCut tho whites of two
eggs well, and when the pie Is done
spread itfem cvehTy over the top
sprinkle over it a little sugar and eet
back iu the oven until it is of a light
brown.
