For fTic sole purpose of inducing sonic disturbance of which political capital might be made, Fred Nix, a colored Radical, unpopular with his own race and especially offensive to the Dcmo- cra»y, w'as appointed Post mast ft at RliickviHc. Unfortunately, a difficulty of long standing .between Nix and Luther Williams, a fair haired boy, who had been persistently harried and wor ried by Nix wai renewed, and culminated in an exchange of shots, and at once the news was telegraphed all over the North tlia «»<»»» oi rtUJk-ri^U Knit '*«*"•- ed into a conspiracy to assassinate an oificiol of the best Government tfiG world A* ever saw. To make the report effective Frey was sent to make investigations. He came, and met respectable citizens, who told him the whole truth, but faith ful to Ills instructions he accepted the misrepresentations of Nix as gospel truths, and, in a bar room, concocted the previous report which spread broad cast over Ohio just 011 the cvc of the late election, contributed to and per haps secured a Republican tiiumph. We have interviewed several gentle men with whom Frey con versed, and with out exception, and without hesitation they brand his “report” as utterly ned wilfully false. His story has. however, done it? mission, but wo have faith to believe that in 1830, a glorious Democratic triumph will consign Frey and Key to that oblivion which they nnd buds of their feather so richly deserve. Justice to those of our citizens refer red to iu Frey’s report requires but a few sentence.;, for no decent man in Barnwell or the State gives it any credit. If a cane and Bible ever were present* ed to Nix—of which we have no person al knowledge, the presentation was net made, by Col. W. H.
