Cotton pickers at Buford’s Bridge
struck for fifty cents and three meals
per hundred last week. Planters struck
for forty cents and no meals. Hold
the fort.

death of F. J. Cassidy, E-*q., at Bam
berg on Sunday morning last at 7
o'clock. A gallant soldier of the lost
cause, a faithful official, a promising
member of the bar,a devoted husband,
^.an affectionate parent, he has followed
Into the better world the beloved wife
who a few weeks ago preceded him.
His death occurred exactly two months
after her's, and was doubtless caused
by hie great grief for her loss. Judge
Cassidy leaves four small children.
We hope to have a fuller tribute to
his worth.

Had Accident.
We regrot to learn of a very serlons
and lamentable accident which, ou
Sunday last, befell two grand-children
of Major Brabham, our esteemed*Clerk
of the Court, at his residence In this
village. The elder of the two children
was carrying the baby down stairs
when at the turn she stumbled, and
catching at the balustrade to save her
self, both were precipitated to the floor
of the hall, a distance of fifteen feet.
Both sustained Very serious Injuries
mid are lying in a very precarious con
dition. We extend our sincere sym
pathies to the Major and his family.

There Is no labor lostdn laying up a
good supply of hay and fodder, both
b>r one’s own use and for sale. In
winter it Is usually difficult to get
these articles of feed, and they are
frequently ordered elsewhere, when
they should bo supplied at home.
The County Commissioners would
do well to look at the condition of the
causeway bridges at Cannon’s croseihg
as they are In a dangerous condition.
The coversjof these bridges are full of
boles, caused by rotten planks.,. Early
attention might save trouble and ex
pense.

tally throughout the South annually. Sup

The Growth of Allendale.
A writer la the Hampton Guardian
thus speaks of the rapid growth of
Allendale, on the Port Royal Railroad :
