always had when published at Ninety-

a most delightful time was had by all

with grace and beauty, and the enj iy-

Our Midway correspoundent informs
is that on Thursday last Mrs. Nathan
Crider, residing about four miles front
that place, was killed by lightning
while standing in the door of her
bouse. The rain storm was not so-
v. r>', and the lightning did no other
damage but tear a few shingles off the
house. This, I believe, makes the
f lurth death from.lightning that has
occurred in Barnwell this year.

Very Interesting and impressive ser

seven children into the church by bap

was filled both morning and evening
with a largo and very attentive con

clemency of the weather) and the
Bishop's sermons were listened to
with every mark of appreciation and
delight. Bishop Howe is so well known
throughout South Carolina as an emi

TOOLE'S
* LATEST IMPROVED FIRE-PROOF
COTTON GIN CONDENSER
L..._
AMR
r* ICTY IT EOT IDUHTlCIt.
The Way to Tell Whether a Ma
chine Will Pay or Not:
- CewtMer the first cost, the probable cost
of repair ,* then how long it w.ll last. Then
begin to run up the profits you expect to re
ceive by its use, and yoh wjll see whether it
will pay or not,
7 For example, we will rufi up the cost and
profits of one of TUOLE’S LATEST fM-
FKOVEX) FIKE-FKOOF l ON DENSER AND
PERFECT DUSTER. The cott ofhnefora
40 saw gin is $45, This includes the at
taching of it to the gin, and proving whether
it will do or not We will put down $1 per
year for repairs. We will now run up what
Utile WS may expect to receive ly Us use.
The Condenser takes the place of your waste
ful lint rooms, wfaiclu-finge in ccit from $10
to $29, spying nothing about the much
needed space they take up. Now put down
the next thing they nre especially ^ood for,
and that is to burn out when you are least
expecting it Now, what doea. it cost me7
#ol)0 o» $1,000, besides, 1 had a good deal
of cotton and a great many seed burned,
also five or ten balesbekaging to my cue,
tomers. They too bavi to share the risk
and loss of this mist cable hnt-room arrange
ment, nud are entitled to no insurance.
Now, put down your immense loss in dusty
cotton. Yeamny conclude that dusty cotton
sells lower, but weighs higher. In this you
are'badly abtaken. Tho matter in the
earth or sand which gives Storm cotton a
black, dingy cast is as light os a feather.
You can prove it. Go to a black, dusty
place in the road in ft dry time, and kick the
sand about, and you will see it rise and float
off in the air. It is lighter than air. Yon-
will not get lich as quick by its weight as
you will get poor by its looks. Your top
cotton will get badly soiled in the boll in a
dry, windy time in this way. To proto
what we sometimes lose by dusty eolton.l
will produce the certifloate of H. Rod, Esq.,
who had a bale dueled by the Condenser,
and one ginned in n lint-hwm, in order to
test the difference: y

J. L‘. Toole—Dear Sir: I did as I told you
about the cotton. I hauled the two bales to
Aiken yesterday. The cotton was a 1
gathered as near as I could cel it. Jafus,
l na+e
owner of lint-room gin, must hafe had an
an awfully nasty lint room frofff ginning
dusty cotton. I believe it looked worse nf-
Jgx limn, before it was ginned. You Lent
him badly. I got 13} conts for bis bale and
14 cents for yours. I lost just enough to
imy for the ginning of one bale, $8.7«. I be
llevetn your duster.
Yours respectfully, II. RED,
Now, let us see what can be saved by it in
one year, supposing every gin to use one. It
is estimated from reliable sources that there
is.Op. average of 123 gins burned acciden
tally throughout, tho South annually. Sup
pose thfiia*-lafllujling their,contents, to av
erage in value $1,000. Here is $125,000
in one year from this qiiarler. Now, it will
not be considered exaggeration in cotton
manufacturing circles to estimate that one-
fourth of the whole orop is damaged by dust,
and we will average this lose at one-quarter
of a cent per pound. IVe generally raise
from four to five million bales per year.
Suppose the dusty bales to average 400 lbs,
and the whole crop four and a half millions.
Jlere is one million one hundred and twenty-
five thousand dollars more saved that would
have gone into the bands of the manufactu
rer, under the plea of dusty or storm cotton.
Tdrey hrrve macbDrery to clhar H of - dost,

I am now putting up (wo styles of these
machines to suit purchasers, ranging in
price from $30 to $45 up, guaranteed to
work well in every particular with but little
attention.
Study the means of saving.
And you will soon have the means of making.
