^^JlPIlSKT^rcd boj in New York city,
-We oar colored people a correct
"lifea of the manner in Which the North-
era people carry ont their prefes*iona of
friendship when the colored people go
among them :
The cries of a child apparently in great
terror coming from a slaughter house
early last evening, attracted the attention
of paasers-by and caused a crowd to col-
- leH. Among those who heard the
child's cries was Gocrgc McKnight, 24
years old. As tho cries continued Mc-
Knight leaped from his cart and entered
tho slaughter house, where he saw two
brawny butchers laughing at the ter
ror of a little colored boy whom they
had hoisted up to (he ceiling with tho
windlass used in rianghtcriffg cattle,
Tho hook with which tho butchers had
secured the boy to tho windlass was fast
tearing his garments, and the child was
in danger of falling to the ground. Mc-
Knight remonstrated with the colored
boy’s tormentors, and one of them,
known in the vicinity os “ Terry,” be«
came angry at his interference and or
dered him to leave the place. On the
refusal of MoKnight to go until tho boy
hod been released from his dangerons
position, Terry seized a heavy oak stake,
bound at tbo end with iron rings, and
struck McKnight a blow on tho head
with it that felled him insensible to the
ground. He then fled, and tho police
had McKnight removed to Bollevuo
. Hospital, where his injuries were pro
nounced by the physicians to be of a se-
' fjfius nature.

The Macon (Ga.) JefryrapA announ
ces that for tho first time in the history
of Georgia tho local mill* find wheat in
sutlieient abundance to ran them with
out drawing supplies of wheat from the
North. There are undoubtedly parts
of Central Georgia where wdicat can be
grown to perfection, for there the soil
is a stiff clay loam and is rich in the
elements that wheat requires. But even
upon the sandy soils of that State it ap
pears that good wheat crops can be raised
by the application of fertilizers, and if
oarc be taken in the tillage. It seems
to bo a remarkable thing that in such
soils whoat should be grown, as the
Telegraph states, as far south in Geor
gia as tho Florida line. The success
has been achieved by the use of the drill.
Nor is it only in Georgia that tho culti
vation of wheat b extending. In North-,
western South Carolina the Germans have
demonstrated that excellent crops of both
wheat and rye can be raised by deep
drilling and manuring with tho waste of
the baroyurd composted with muck and
pine shatters. The seed b drilled in
bunches, tho drilb being sufficiently wide
apart to admit of running a narrow cul
tivator between. After a while the
whoat tillers and covers the whole
ground. Throe crops of rye for forage
are cut there by the Germans in one
season.
The Radicals failed in their exodus
game, and the dusky, duped immigrants,
whom they fooled away from happv
homes in tho South, to go up North and
out West to plow with golden plows, in
the very soluablc earth of Kansas and
mako immense fortunes, arc returfaing
to their homes sadder and wiser people.
Continue your little sob cm os and tricks,
yo “gay deceivers,” and tho negroes
will believe you—not.
