There are j^snty-three references to it in tlie 8crip|Peit God has put on tho pipes of . hh owp’book repeated threats and com mands as to tho right performincc of the duty of martiage. When wo look at the newspapers and too the divorces, wo know thero is something wrong socially. “Now courtahip is the first step to marriage, but lovers do not regird it in ks true light* Aa lovers they talk too much. They are not like the Indians, who Chink that this gabble is an evidence •f Wcakncaa in the head. Frankness, outspoken ad«ico, generous sympathy must tSk'c the place of this small talk It is a disgusting' fact that tho palaver of lovers is wone than the purring of cats. I denounce the senseless twaddle which < it now oall«d courting. A man ought to straighten himself up when conversing with tho lady he expects to make his •wife, and with whom ho intends sharing hit joys and sorrows. Women know a thing of twp on this point, and even giddy girts can admire n sincere, honest, manly fellow, who seeks their love. Lovers should not go round the question, but come to it in a straightforward man ner. Pou’t insinuate tfetngs to each , bat speak boldly ef all that onght bw known. If you are afhhd to speak out squarely, go home and read your Bible, and learn your duty. A nran should know as mtSeh abpnt a woman and a woman as much about a man be fore marriage as after, and there would- L bean end to divorcee and fewer dead houses. The steamer Colorado, which arrived In' this city on Tuesday last, had on MM a passenger who promisee to create a profound sensation here, not only amongthe medical fraternity, but among- the public at large* It is a body six years of age, and the formation of his hee# and feet present the. rmW remark ablofrcak of nature, undoubtedly, that v^the World has ever seen. His head is ahaptsd exactly like that of a rooster, ' with bHl, comb, wattles and feathers complete. It is as large as the head of an ordinary child of six years, and the ' features extended to the shoulders. Tho 1 bojr wears a jacket closely buttoned at the neck, and presents the appearance of a huge rooster clothed in the garb of hu manity. There is absolutely nothing about the bead to indicate that it is that pf a human beitig, and it is as perfect a production on a large seal j of that of a member of the barnyard tribe as it is possible to imagine.- The foot and low- cr limbs, from the knees down, are also of a rooster, although they are several sixes larger than even those of the lar gest Shanghai fowl. The hands are thoeo of a huifthn being perfectly formed, but abundantly larger. Except the head, feet and lower limbs, the child has a human development. During tho trip up the river it was accompanied by its fitber and mother, and was kept in their state-room, except when it was occa sionally taken on deck closely veiled for a breath of fresh air.—St. Louis^Timcs. Thanking yon for past favors, and hoping for a continuance of the same, I am, very respectfully feb20-ly John Bresnan, Manager. Grant said he didn’t care a “ damn ” for the decision of tiro Supremo Court of Soutli Carolina, and Sheridan says the recent decision of the United States Conrt in the case of Standing Bear is " absurd and nonscnical,” and that be will pay no attention to it until it is sus tained by the Supreme Court. Little Phil, should by all means have the sec ond place on tho GranW ticket. The country would then be certain to have a strong government. Dr. Mary Walker has gone over to the rebels and revolutionists. She $p. plaudod Senator Vance’s speech so loud ly the other day that Mr. Anthony, who was in tiro Chair, ordered her removal. She declined to go unless Mr. Thurman, the legal President pro tem., came after her, and threatened the door-keeper with the ferule of her trusty umbrella. She remained mistress of the field, and mani fested her admiration of the witty North Carolinian by applause ad libitum. The Indiana authorities, particularly those in Terre Haute, have begun a vigorous war on miscegenation. Last week the grand jury indicted four colored men and their wives for violating the State law prohibiting tho intermarriage of whites and blacks, and also the llcr- ereqds Robert Jeffries and William An derson,‘two of tiro most famous colored preachers in the West, for marrying these couples. These indictments have created intense excitement among tiro negro population of Indiana, os might be expected. Beecher expresses himself a? having been so pleased by his reception in the Southern cities which he 1ms recently visited that be has arranged with the lecture bureau under whose auspices he makes his tours to plan a scries of lec tures in the South the next season, which he will deliver with the design of devot ing all of the profits of the same to the various Southern charities.- A great many Southern charities do not want Beecher’s money, and a great many Southern cities do not desire the adukcr- ous preacher’s presence. The engineers of tiro Grant movement are aakl to fear that the ex-Prcsidcnt will return home from his travels too soon. They wish him to protract his stay in China or Japan, then take a trip to thf Sandwich Islands, and wind up with a jaunt in Mexico, so that he wiB not reach California until next Spring, when the Republican State Conventions will begin to assemble, Ulysses may disconcert their plan by entering the Golden Gate this Summer. He is doubtless tired of traveling and aoxitraa to get back to his native land and li quor. i- — "7*1 Resuscitated - on - the European Plan. i- For Gentlemen only. lERKS: ■ Rooms, each person, per day....
