colored. Dowling apparently received
no serious Injury as he Was able fo be
up and about, but on Sunday he died.
His death was douhtleea caused by the

Lucy Carter, aged eight and ten years,
and Cooley Williams, aged fourteen
years, alt colored, were drownedjn Mr.
T. J. Cater’s mill pond near Baldoo.
We learn that they bad been sent to

By some accident the boat was ovei-

good, strong bat, but it lias one serious objec
tion In the sale of cotton it laps so perfectly
on the reel and fold* up so nicely afteiiL

the appearance of napped cotton. 1 make
this statement upon tbe-hutiiarity of cotton
buyers who have informed me of the fact.
This, then, is one pbTtit of improvement in
my eomlenser. By reversing the Tnoufri of
the reel and blowing the cotton down on (in
endless apron, lapping the cotUm, flake at a
time,, on the reel is presented; at the same
time the meshes of the reel wre kept elear of
ooUoq and a free passage of air and dost ac
quired. After the cotton is dropped down
on the apron it is whipped round to four
rollers in front, where it fbrms a bat. The
passage of the lint between these rjllers 16
form that obviates theabore troubles, and de
livers the cotton with a beautiful fluffy dp-
penrece, perfeelly dear ofany nftpps ot dtid
